Social chairman Above are pictured the sophomores who first entered this high school in September. 1940. At that time there were 68 of them. In September of this year 65 of these Studi nts came back to the halls of F. H. S, and elected their officers as shown above, During the year the class members took a hay ride to the Log Cabin on the Muncie Pike. where they had a Wiener roast. I1 order to raise money the sophomore class presented a movie. Riding on Air. starring Joe E. Brown and Guy Kibbee. A oneercel comedy. Gra'd Opera, was also shown. Those appointed on the committee to select the show were Max Walker. Leah Hiday. Stanton Galcy, and Barlinara Erown. Hand-in-hand the sophomores and seniors won the iiter-class track meet held on Frefhmai ilag clay in April by defeating the frelhmen and jun- iors 56 to 29. Because of the shortage of wool and feared un- predictable price levels next year. the sophomores ordered their elafs sweaters in late spring instead of waiting until their jufior year as has been cus- tomary in the past. The sweaters are bright green and white. On their last party this year the sophomores took a hike to the Adams' Dutch Mill where they played games and had another wi:-ner roast. The class sponsors are James Monahan and Mifs Lorene Robinson.

Breeze reporter Going into one of the hardest years of school life the sophomore class of 1940-41 advanced to the rank of junior class members during this last year. After working diligently for some weeks the class called a meeting for the purpose of planning a party which turned out to be held in the gym- nasium, Games were played. refreshments were served, and dancing concluded the evening. After a few weeks more it came time for the annual junior class play. Students taking part in the play, i'Mad March Heirs given on November 6. were Bob Ribble, Norma Mattson. Martha Leer. Kath- leen Jones. Clyde Mittank. James Eastburn. Char- line Craw. Merrill Cooper, Grville Mason. Shirley Winslow. O. H. Rigsbee, Kathleen Lynch. Doina Carey, Marvin Gaither, Jane Jones and Junior Scott. Adeline Mart Nall was director. Then the matter of junior class sweaters. rings and pins was brought up in another class gather- ing. All juniors who so desired. ordered a class sweater and a ring or class pin. During the closing weeks of school a second and fiial party was held at the home of Willie Peter- son. This party included a hay ride and Wiener roast. As a conclusion to their junior year the class members entertained the seniors at a banquet held in Marion at the Hotel Spencer on May 15. Be- cause of world conditions the annual junior and senior trip had to be canceled,

At fir,-t they were contigually underioot and running around not knowing what to do or where to go. but after a while tnev became accustomed to their surroundiigs and began to belong, On September ll. these freshmen were properly initiated into high school life by the seniors. Throughout the day the Ire-hmei could be seen ru'ning around with lipstick on their faces. their clothes on wrong-side-beiorc. and doing just as the seniors would have them do. After this initia- tion. they became lull-fledged members of Fair- mount high school. In October tlie freshmen decided to have a cia-s party. A vote was takei and a Halloween paity was held in the gym on October 17. The Citizenship and Vocations classes. one of which evcry fre-hman is a member. wrote one-act plays on The Importance of Home Life. The result was that a chili supper and a party were held in the gym on March 27. As the basketball team had won the Seetional. the first team and the student manag- er were special guests invited to the party. On April 2, the green and white freshman flag went up signifying the day for the annual inter- clas- track meet. This proud banter was made by Norma Bright. Barbara Winans. Catherine Turn- er. and Phyllis Wigner, The seniors and sopho- mores won ox er the juniors and freshmen. taking all but two firsts, After the meet there was much scrambling and running to get a piece of the bad- ly battered ilag. Mrs. Myrtle E. Giloieath has had personal in- terviews with all members ot' the freshman class. With each -he discussed vocational ideas and as- pirations. Also. as is the custom for every fresh- man elass. each person made a career book con- taining an outline ol' a chosen career and informa- tion about it. With this activity. ninety-two freshmen closed a most successful year. Class sponsors were Adeline Mart Nall and Ev- erett Chapman. resigned. and Forre.-t G. Witsman.
