RELAU QUEEH Maxine Moon was chosen bv the GYIUTC' Siudmll body by popular vote to reign as the queen for the 7th annual Fairmount Relays. Maxine was one of the at- tendants for Dona Kesler who was the queen last year. Maxine Moon, Mary Howell. Leona Doyle. Velma Hunt. and Patsv O'Dell were picked as candidates and Maxine was the student's choice. The Queen chose for her attendants 4 girls from the junior class. They are Ruthanna Sutton, Janis Helms. Marjorie Craw. and Marjorie Trice. The Queen and her attendants awarded the medals and ribbons to the track boys who placed in the events in which they participated. The meet had not been held at the time that this book went to press. but it was expected that Fairmount would be host to Bluff- ton. Gas City and Montpelier. BASEBALL Prospects for next year's baseball team look excep- tionally good. although this yt-ar's team failed to click as it did in 1939 when Fairmount won the County championship. The Quakers had only 4 men left from the championship team to build around this year and the rest was filled in with underclassmen. The vet- erans of the team were Bob Carl. catcherl Bill Sutton. pitcher: Jim Shane. short-stop. and Bob Gossett, left fielder. The following bovs made up the squad: first row. left to right: Jeff Titus. Stanton Galey. Bill Sut- ton. Bob Trader, and Jim Shane. Second row: Gene Peterson, Phil Sellers. Charles Gaddis. Jack Gift. and Bob Gossett. Third row: Jack Murphy. student manager: Fred Shane. David Mott. Gail Lehman. Max Walker. Paul Poe. and Bob Carl. The crown was removed from the Quakers by the Gas City Tigers who have the honor of being the new County 'tchampsf' TRACK Up until April 22. the Fairmount track team had encountered some tough competition and had never been badly' beaten. The souad is well-balanced and from it Fairmount will probably send representatives to the state track meet. In the Grant county track meet the Quakers fin- ished third though the meet was close. Gas Citv won with 49 1-3 points. Marion was second with -13 1-3 points: and Fairmount was third with 411 1-3 points. The Quakers have beaten Markleville and Tipton and have been beaten by Gas City and Marion. This write-up for the annual had to be written before the end of the season so that it was impossible to list all the schools that Fairmount would have competed against by May 23. The Quakers participated in the Muncie Relays on Saturday, April 26. Outstanding performers were Lupe Velasquez. who ran a 4 minute and 53 second mile twhich is just a few seconds from the school record held by Warren Florea whose time is 4 minutes and 48 seeondsl. and Bob Carl. who turned in an amazing time in the Alexandria meet. running the 220 yard dash in 23 seconds and .08.
