It is therefore appropriate that the late Otis H. Milam Jr., registrar and director of admissions, 1953-1973, be given a place of remembrance among its pages. His life ' s work, dedicated to the belief that the needs and aspirations of other human beings are of ultimate importance, expressed most eloquently the nature and quality of the man himself. And so, while it may appear that Otis Milam is the one being honored here, it is truly we who are honored by having known him. 17 Dr. Wendell G. Ware, left, signed his auto- graph for Dr. Wendell G. Hardway just as he did for many of the students and fa- culty members. 138 CHUCK WHITING AND LYNETTE ORBOVICH, SENIOR SPEECH AND DRAMA MAJORS, WERE AWARDED THE SIXTH-PLACE TROPHY FOR ORAL INTERPRETATION IN THE NATIONAL INDIVIDUAL EVENTS CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNEY HELD AT PLATTSBURGH, N.Y., IN APRIL, 1974. BLACK AWARENESS WEEK WAS OBSERVED AT FAIRMONT STATE COLLEGE IN MARCH, 1974. Coordinating activities on cam- pus were, from left, Kelvin Beasley, Nelsona Waugh and James Brittan. 139 REMEMBRANCES OF THINGS PAST THE RUMORED GASOLINE SHORTAGE FINALLY BECAME A REALITY DURING THE WINTER OF 1974. In response, Professor Jack Pulsifer of the history department took up the bicycle as his means of trans- portation to and from campus, a tactic which not only resulted in his conserving fuel, but netted him a svelte physique by the time spring rolled around. FAIRMONT STATE COLLEGE STUDENTS HAD THEIR SHARE OF ENTERTAINMENT DURING THE YEAR IN ADDITION TO EXCELLENT CAMPUS DRAMA AND MUSIC PRODUCTIONS. B.B. King, the king of the blues, performed the homecoming concert in September and a number of popular current films were shown in the Student Center. Among those who performed for the several coffee houses during the year were (opposite page) Paul Langille, the Canadian folk singer, top; Ellen Kearney, and Larry Groce and the Currance Brothers. TWO ENGLISH PROFESSORS DISPLAYED THEIR VERSATILITY AN D ENTREPRENEURIAL TAL- ENTS AS HOSTS OF A LOCAL TELEVISION SHOW. The two, Dr. Richard Sonnenshein, left, and Dr. Jack Hussey, hosted a weekly show, The Movies Tonight, on which they presented reviews and opinions of films being shown in the local area. Though well received, the show had a short life because the station suspended its broadcasting operations a few months after the show went on the air. 140 141 FAIRMONT FALCON CHEERLEADERS The Fairmont State College Cheerleaders: From Left, are: Mary Foltz, Patty Morrison, Therese Bonasso, Pat Cassidy. 142 THE INAUGURATION OF DR. Dr. Hardway ' s investiture as chief administrator of the college was witnessed by members of the faculty and student body as well as officers of the West Virginia Board of Regents and prominent guests from throughout the state. Dr. Hardway had already been on the job for nine months, having been appointed to the post in July, 1973, upon the retirement of former president, Dr. Eston K. Feaster.
