SVjk 1 Prologue: This is your 1969 Mound, to cherish and to keep. It is an honest attempt to capture, in prose and in pictures, the few years you have spent at Fair- mont State College. At the same time it will explore the attitudes of your fellow students and the moods which affect them in the environment of the Hill , the exhilarations, the depression, the loves, the apathy. We trust that you, the reader, will find the Mound a mirror, in some small way, of your own experience at this school. Hopefully it will even teach you something about yourself as an individual. It not, we have failed. Failure to communicate is not for- getfulness, however. You can surely take solace in the fact if in no other that your •picture appears at least once in this book and even if it does not, the resultant sense of loss or alienation is perhaps what the 1969 Mound- is all about. Beanies are worn with dignity and pride and serve as an identifi- cation of freshmen. Instilling of tradition is continued through the torch-light parade and the candlelight ceremony where freshmen learn the true mean- ing and spirit of FSC. MR. AND MISS FRESHMAN Freshman Week activities end with the selection of Mr. and Miss Freshman. They are chosen by the members of the Freshman Class and their counselors on the basis of enthusiasm, participation, and potential leadership ability.
