DR. JOSEPH ROSIER ' The destiny and character of that individual who is born on January 24th is guided by the sign of Aguarius so predicts the astrologer as he examines his map of the heavens to cast the horoscope of the president of Fairmont State Teachers College, Dr. Joseph Rosier, who, on May 14th became the Junior United States Senator from West Virginia.

We feel proud of Fairmont State Teachers College today. It stands on its knoll and provides training which better fits us to work in and for society. However, if we look at its past record we may feel just a little more proud. The present college was one of the first established as a private institution in 1865 to meet the de- mand for competent and efficient teachers in the free schools. Ad- vancement has been steady from the time of the first meeting in the basement of a church to our pres- ent standing. Our school has had three homes of its own; first, at the corner of Quincy and Adams Streets; second, on Fairmont Ave- nue; and now on the hill. From a student body of seventy- five in 1872 we have grown to an enrollment of over seven hundred. We have advanced from a high school standing to a college rat- ing. In 1905, our Teacher ' s Train- ing Department was added. It was in 1923, when we offered our first A.B. degree in Education, that we finally achieved a rating as a first class college. From this time only two courses. The College and The Standard Normal, have been of- fered. Throughout this time the school has had the aim of preparing teachers so that education in West Virginia may be improved to the greatest possible extent.

You are an intellectual leader, for you are gifted with high intelligence, forceful reasoning power, and singular clarity of vision. President Rosier ' s capable planning and guidance of our curriculum, which have placed Fairmont State Teachers College high in the rank of Teachers ' Col- leges, verify such prediction. The efficiency and fairness of his administrative policies have won for him our highest loyalty and support. You are inclined to be unconventional and accept everything at its human value. You are honest, sincere and reliable and have a clear conception of the road ahead of you. The remarkable intuition of this astrologer is continu- ously manifested by the kind smile of greeting and the sin- cere words of interest and helpfulness which President Rosier offers to each of us. A preeminent figure on the campus, on the speaking rostrum, and in the ranks of great educators is Dr. Joseph Rosier.
