Tiger Football A Team With Pride Back Row: Coach Boss, Brian Shockey, John Block, Matt Schepers, Mark Hanson, Danny Scheil, Asst. Coach Shepard. Middle Row: Jerry Plambeck, Jason Harms, Eric Schepers, Keith Bristol, Greg Burback, Barry Wettstead. Front Row: Student Manager - Kelly Imig, Neil Dawson, David Wehland, Joe Velasquez, Student Managers - Jason Swerczek and Mark Hudson. The 1986 Fairmont Tiger Football Team truly went through a Rebuilding Season. Seniors were forced out with in- juries, leaving only two on the team. So- phomores and Freshmen had to shoul- der much of the responsibility. The Tigers posted victories against Marquette and McCool Jet. As always the Crossroads Conference was tough all the way around and although the Ti- gers lost, the rest of the games provided valuable experience. Offensively, star- ters for the Tigers included: Quarterback — Jerry Plambeck, Fr. Running Back — Eric Schepers, So. Running Back — Greg Burback, So. Center — Barry Wettstead, Fr. Guard — John Block, Sr. Guard — Danny Scheil, Jr. End — Mark Hanson, Sr. End — Matt Schepers, So. Defensively, the Tiger starters were: Line — Brian Shockey, So. Line — Mark Hanson, Sr. End — Danny Scheil, Jr. End — Eric Schepers, So. Inside Linebacker — John Block, Sr. Inside Linebacker — Matt Schepers. So. Corner Back — Greg Burback, So. Corner Back — Jason Harms, So. Two Tigers received Post Season honors. Danny Scheil was Honorable mention Defensive End and Matt Schep- ers was Honorable Mention Inside Line- backer. With only losing two starters in the year to come, the Tigers could be le- gitimate contenders in the Crossroads Conference. Mark Shepard was a new coach this year who did an excellent job in running the defense. Lady Tigers Excite The Crowd The Fairmont Lady Tigers Basketball team be- gan their 1986-87 season with a loss to State Qual- ifier Benedict by winning their next five games, in- cluding a win against Class C. Henderson in the first round game of the Hampton Holiday Tourna- ment. They lost in the finals of the same tourney to Fullerton, but took second place. During the re- mainder of the season, the girls won five of their last eleven games. One of the five wins included a 51-16 win over Dorchester, which is the second highest point spread in Fairmont Lady Tiger histo- ry. Five of the losses they suffered were by ten points or less. All in all, they ended the season with an impressive 10-8 season. Players receiving honors for the 1986-87 sea- son were Kimberly Schmidt: All Conference Hon- orable Mention, and selection to play in the CRC All Star Game; Tiffini Schaldecker: Selection to play in the CRC All Star Game; Raina Pieper: CRC All Tournament First Team. All Conference First Team, Lincoln Journal and Star Honorable Men- tion. Omaha World-Herald Honorable Mention; Sue Priefert: All Conference Honorable Mention.
