Seniors leave their mark. The Fairmont volleyball teams met a great deal of success during the 1985 season. The reserve squad ended the year with a record of five wins and five losses. Throughout the fall, the junior varsity team showed considerable improvement and the desire to win. The varsity girls accomplished a much higher goal. The 1985 campaign ended with Fairmont owning the first varsity volleyball winning record since 1972. They ended the season with ten wins and seven losses. Many team goals were reached along the way as well. Starting off the season with a win on the road against Hampton was a big lift. On the following day, the Tigers were able to claim runner-up position in a six team McCool Jet. Tournament, losing in the finals to a tough Exeter squad. Another bright spot for the girls was the middle of the season Crossroads Conference Tourney played at Fairmont. After knocking off a tough Marquette team in the first round 15-11,8-15,19-17, Fairmont once again ran into Exeter, losing 13-15,15-0,15-6. The Tigers came back the following night to beat Hampton to claim third place in the CRC Tourney. Fairmont got into an end-of-the-year slump, losing their final three games. The last being the fourth loss of the year to Exeter 15-9,15-11 in the first round of the sub- district. Many individual honors were won by this years team members. First team CRC Tourney members were Julie Jennett and Sheri Frazier. Second team members were Jacque Metzger and Melissa Hurst. First team All-Confer- ence honors went to Julie Jennett; Second team All- Conference, Sheri Frazier; Honorable mention All-Confer- ence, Jacque Metzger. P.J.’s Tiger STRENGTH! John rebounds. Matt shows good form. The 1985-86 basketball season was better than what the record showed. Along with having a new coach and learning his system, Fairmont played a number of rated teams and played most of their games on the road. The Tigers improved throughout the year and were very competitive the last part of the season. In three of the last four games, Fairmont upset Polk, lost by three to Milligan on their home court, and played a tough game against Exeter in the opening round of Sub-District play. Milligan and Polk went to State in Class D-2 and Exeter became the Class D-l champions. Honors earned during the season went to senior P.J. O’Connor who was named All-Conference Honorable Mention. The letter winners are Shane Jantzi, P.J. O’Connor, John Block, Tim Wehland, Eric Schepers and Matt Schepers. Back Row: Jason Harms, Lance Logan, Merle Swartz, Richard Logan, Daniel Hall, B.J.
