These uniforms are displayed by Tammy Shockey, John Jacobsen and P. J. O'Connor. We would like to thank all of those who contributed to these uniforms. The band uniform committee was made up of Pat Hilty, Chairman, Dan Schepers, Mary Hasselman, Sue Frazier, Tammy Shockey and P. J. O'Connor. These people put forth a great deal of time and effort to make the new uniforms possible. There were two specific clubs for donations. The Treble Club consisted of those who donated S500 or more. The members of that club were: Burlington Northern, Lions Club, Chamber of Commerce, Band Boosters, School General Fund Contribution and Hilty's of Fairmont. The second club was the Base Club which was for donations of $100 to $499. The members of this club were: Legion Auxiliary, Women s Club, Farmers Coop, Paul O'Connor Family, Dan Schepers Family, Faculty and Band Students. Donations under $100 were received by NCIP Committee, Geneva Implement Company, Manor Residents, and the IOOF Lodge. We would like to thank the entire community for their contributions at the band concert and during the fund drive which helped make these uniforms possible. THANK YOU!!!! Go For It The Fairmont Tiger Football Team posted a 1-8 record during a hard fought rebuilding year. Dan Bures was the lone senior on the team and with the help of captains Shane Jantzi and P. J. O'Connor, the Tigers managed to play very good football at times. The season opened with Fairmont traveling to Giltner. Giltner was rated first in the state in the preseason polls. Giltner scored 28 points in the first half and was then shut out in the second by a stingy Fairmont defense. The Tigers first win came against Hordville when Fairmont won Homecoming by a score of 36-26. Rising City was 8-0 at the time and headed for the State playoffs. Even though, Fairmont scored first on a 49 yard run by Kendell Verhage to go on top 6-0. After trading touchdowns, the halftime score ws 14-14. Rising City scored twice in the second half after Fairmont's mistakes and finally won 38-14. Often a team's record does not indicate the heart and spirit of the team. This was the case of the 1984 team. All were underclassmen but one, and they played some of the best competition in the state. Through all of this, they never quit or backed down! They won personal victories because they had the character and courage to face adversity and hang in there. The 1984 team deserves respect for their perseverance and positive attitude. They not only grew as athletes, but also as people. GOOD JOB!! F M DRUG FREE POSTAGE ON ALL PRESCRIPTIONS GENEVA, NE HOUSE OF HAIR DESIGN 1311 J STREET GENEVA, NE F.H.S. ASHBY ASHBY GENEVA, NE THE NEBRASKA SIGNAL GENEVA, NE 759-3117 The Fairmont volleyball team had a successful season. Opening with Giltner, the varsity squad beat Marquette and Benedict. Next, the FHS team played Bradshaw when they were at the peak of their season and FHS consequently lost, 15-9, 13-15,13-15. FHS then traveled to Exeter losing that night. On homecoming, FHS soundly defeated Hordville, 15-1, 15-1. During the week of Oct. 1-5, CRC Tournaments, the FHS girls played 5 games in 4 days. FHS defeated Benedict in the first round, defeated Exeter in the second round and lost the semi-final match to Hampton and the consolation game to McCool. Julie Jennett and Melissa Hurst were selected to the All-tournament second team. After the tournament, FHS traveled to Polk and defeated them 15-4, 2-15, 15-9, playing half of the third set in semi-darkness due to a power failure. FHS lost their final 2 season games to Hampton and Rising City. In District play, FHS again defeated Exeter and ended its season by losing to McCool. The varsity record was 7 wins and 9 losses. The J.V. record was 5 wins and 4 losses. Julie Jennett was selected to the Second-Team All-Conference and Melissa Hurst received Honor- able Mention. 23 Tigers Experience A Rebuilding Year Back Row Paul Burback, P. J. Fairmont did play its most consistent game of the year in the home final against Milligan and came away with their third victory of the season. With five returning lettermen for next year and the game experience they had this year, prospects look better. CRC record 2-8. Over-all record 3-12. For over half the team this was their first year in track and it was a beneficial building and learning experience. They all learned to stick it out and compete even if they did not place or win. The season was highlighted by some excellent performances at the district meet. Daniel Hall missed going to State by one place in the two mile and placed third. Dan Bures won the shot put and qualified for the State Meet. In Omaha, Dan missed qualifying for the finals in the shot put with a throw of 43'%'. That was a fine effort.
