The Tigers were unfortunately, a bit disappointed this year. The Tigers 7-9 season was highlighted by victories over eventual conference tourney champ Giltner and Football Power Marquette. The Tigers placed 4th in the conference race with a 6-4 conference record. Our schedule was not without quality opponents. Seven of our opponents made it to their District Finals; 4 to a Regional and 2 to a State Tourney. Mark Quick was selected to the AU-Conference second team. He will play in the all-star game. Mike Schepers was selected as an alternate. Good Bye seniors. It was a good 4 years in all. FHS lost to Marquette at home where one of Marquette's players committed a flagrant foul and was disqualified from the game. FHS continued to work hard defensively, but the team shooting percentage wasn't good enough to beat Dorchester or Giltner. At home. FHS beat NE Lutheran and then lost to Shickley. FHS scored the most points of the season (47) at McCool. In the CRC tournannent. Fairmont was paired up against Hampton; Revenge was in the air. FHS controlled the tempo of the game and sneaked by the Hawks. 42-40. The next foe was Rising City, a team the Tigers hadn't played yet. It was a close game during the first half and a last-second, buzzer shot by Julie Jennett from half-court tied the game with 14 all. FHS ended their tournament play by losing a tough battle to Rising City. FHS went on to defeat Bradshaw in regular season play. 30-28. the highlight of the girls season at FHS. The Tigers then lost to Rising City. Benedict and Polk in regular season play. In districts, FHS lost to Shickley the class D-1 state championship team. In summary, the FHS girls basketball team worked very hard throughout the season on dribbling, shooting, passing, and teamwork. Maintaining a positive, winning attitude through a 4-13 season was always the ultimate goal. Four of the team's losses went to state champions.
