The girls 1981 season was one of discovery and changes. The girls tried some new skills and attitude adjustments which led to two victories, including Lawrence and Gresham. The team consisted of many young players who gained experience and skill, to be used as a building block for future years. Although their record was not the best, the girls showed improvement and at times learned to take charge on the floor. The girls gained the respect of many of their competitors and fans. Playing a rugged schedule of six teams with 6-3 records or better, 3 conference champions, and 2 state qualifiers, the Tigers fell from its perch atop the conference to a 2-7 record. The team competed, improved, and gained valuable experience throughout the season. Several tigers received post season recogni- tion. Doug Scheil was named first team All Conference Linebacker. He was also given honorable mention in the Hastings Tribune. Omaha World Herald and the Lincoln Star.
