Tiger 79 Fairmont High School airmont, Nebraska In Memory Of Walter West WALTER L. WEST, being an alumnus of Fairmont High School’s Class Of ’37, took special interest and pride in the school and its students. For several years he voluntarily operated the public address system for many varied school programs and activities until the school procured its own system. For some twenty years, Mr. West announced home football games, ran the clock for home basketball games, and supported nearly every school event with his presence and helpfulness. For the past 27 years he lived in Fairmont and attended and assisted with the annual Alumni Banquets. As a Fairmont businessman he was active in all community affairs, especially those in relationship to the school and he helped several years with summer baseball programs for boys. 2 Senior Class RHONDA WHITEHEAD Volleyball 1-4, Track 1, Basketball 1-4, Pep Club 1,3,4, Spirit Club 2, F-Club 3-4, Band 1-4, Swing Choir 4, Girls Glee 1-4, Mixed Chorus 1-4, Small Groups in vocal and instrumental 1-4, Science Club 2, Who’s Who Among American High School Students 4, Girls State 3 SHANNON McMAHON Volleyball 1, Pep Club 1, Spirit Club 2, Band 1-2, Girls Glee 1-4, Mixed Chorus 1-4 TOM KAHLER Honor Society 3-4, Mixed Chorus 1, Annual Staff Ed. 4, Class Sec.-Treas. 2, Who’s Who Among American High School Students 3-4, Society of Distinguished American High School Students 4 WILLIAM SOFTLEY Football 2, Basketball 1-2, F-Club 2, Mixed Chorus 1, Class President 1, Class Vice-President 4 JENNIFER THOMPSON Volleyball 1, Pep Club 1, Spirit Club 2, Chess Club 2, Band 1-2, Annual Staff 2,Girls Glee 1,2,4, Mixed Chorus 1,2,4, Honor Society 3-4, Who’s Who Among American High School Students 3-4, Society of Distinguished American High School Students 4 •ION JOHNSON Basketball 1-3, Band 1-4, Mixed Chorus 1, Spirit Club 2, Student Council 1, Chess Club 2-3 THERESA BAUMAN Volleyball 1-2, Track 4, Pep Club 1, Spirit Club 2, Annual Staff 4, Girls Glee 1-2, Mixed Chorus 1-2, Honor Society 3-4, Who’s Who Among American High School Students 3-4, Society of Distinguished American High School Students 4 LOUIS MOUL, JR. The winning float done by the Sophomores. Sideline spectator’s included coaches Collins and Dietrich. Starting on Monday before Homecoming, the school took part in Spirit Week. Some of the activities were Hats Off day, T-shirt day, and Dress-up day. On Homecoming afternoon a parade went downtown. Entries were from all FHS classes. That night the Tigers lost a hard fought battle against highly ranked Polk. Afterwards the dance opened with King Mike and Queen Joan dancing the first dance. The music was provided by the “Fillmore Sound System”. Twisting the night away! After The Dance . . . Aren't they cute? Activities Banquet 1979 The Fairmont Activities Banquet was held March 28, 1979, at the Fairmont High School Gym. The dinner was served by Country Catering Inc. Joan Snodgrass, President of the Pep Club, served as toastmistress for the ceremonies. Letters and awards were presented in all areas of athletics, pep club, music, and speech. The Eighth grade sponsored a skit entitled “Madame Lindarina Priefertina and her Magic Balls.” Don Korbelik and Linda Priefert were crowned king and queen of the Activities Banquet. Rhonda Whitehead was the attendant. Redd Tag Disco provided the music for the dance following. King Don kisses Queen Linda. Toastmistress Joan Snodgrass. Head table. Losing five of the varsity starters made it very difficult for this year’s team. Although it was a losing season, the girls gave it a good try. Many Freshmen and Sophomores played on the varsity squad this year, which will give them experience and a great advantage next year. There are also a few Juniors with three years experience which will be a fine asset to next year’s team. Melanie Moul received All-Conference Honorable Mention. 43 Now, let’s talk this one over! What A Season Back: Coach Dietrich, Dave Smith, Bill Ehmen, Randy Ehmen, Allen Quick, Steve Koozer, Mike Ehmen, Asst. Coach Collins. Front Row: Student Manager Joe Wallin, Joel Snodgrass, Jim Lott, Randy Whitehead, Don Korbelik, Doug Scheil, Greg Miles, Jamie Miller, Student Manager Mark Scheil. The Fairmont Tigers, under the new leadership of Coach Lad Dietrich and asst. Coach Collins, experienced a rough season this year. The Tigers continued to play a tough eleven-man football schedule, which was a contributing factor that made this 1978 season seem so long. One lone victory against Silver Creek registered in the record books for the year. The future outlook however, is optimistic because next year the Tigers will play an 8-man schedule. 44 All Conference: Don Korbelik, Randy Ehmen, Randy Whitehead, Bill Ehmen, Steve Koozer. Our great back ups One of our tuff Tigers. Come on you guys get up! Kevin, praying for some help. Randy and Allen ready for a Tiger Victory. Julie attempts a jump. This year the girls had a new Coach. Mr. Pieper taught them ball handling and new ways of shooting with accuracy. Even though it wasn’t the most successful season they have had, the team members learned how to compete. Everyone is especially proud of Desiree Johnson.
