Clubs Keep You Busy Since the office practice class was too small this year to edit a school paper, a few Senior volunteers took over the task. Throughout the school year whenever time was sparing, these girls would be working dili- gently to complete one of the seven issues of Tiger Time. Looking it over: Sharon Smith, Deb Boardman, Wanda Chapman, Miss Berg, Carol Homan, Judy Tucker. The Speech Club proudly returned to Fairmont on March 2, 1971 with the Pioneer Conference Trophy theirs once more. A tight schedule did not permit a Speech class this year, so all the work was done on spare time. Officers of the speaking group consisted of: President Pat O'Connor, Vice-President Pam Adams, and Secretary Pam Nelson. The Club did exceedingly well at District as they tied for third out of over thirty schools. Every mem- ber was pleased with the year's accomplishments. Superior Ratings At Music Contest Stage Band members include: M. Chapman, D. Kahier, L. O'Connor, Godfrey Machal, Director, P. Adams, Second Row; L. Taylor, G. Ma- chal, C. McMahon, G. Cowins, R. Lovegrove, K. West, Front Row: P. Opfer, T. Lovegrove, G- Henkel, J. Bellows, D. Ekwall Making up the Girl's Sextette were: P. O'Connor, P. Adams, W. Chapman, S. Smith, S. Girmus, D. Kah- ier The year 1970 and '71 was a very busy one for the band. It proved to be very interesting and they also gained many experiences. On August 22, before school started they went to Lincoln for the annual Shrine Bowl. On October 9, they attended Melody Roundup at Hastings where they earned a II rating. A few weeks following this they went to Lincoln where they marched in class competition at the Pershing Auditorium Marching Clinic. They also received a II rating here. On March 23, they worked very hard at Dorchester, where they performed in the evening for the Pioneer Band Clinic. Then on April 6, eleven people attended the Clarinet Clinic at Sutton. District Music Contest was held in Fairmont on April 22 and 23. They completed their year with four superiors (I) and eighteen excellents (II) at contest. A great deal of thanks and appreciation go out to Mr. Machal, the band director, who spent a good deal of time and effort with the band. Clubs Mean Work, But Fun The Library Club of FHS was al- ways busy, not only working in the library with books, but doing other useful things. For example, the bulletin boards were always beau- tifully decorated, and the record department was developed more fully. To earn money, the ambi- tious members sponsored a film, SOMETHING'S DUCKY, and sold popcorn at it. Officers for the '70- '71 school year were: President Sharon Smith, Vice-President Pat Ritchey, Secretary Helen Daws, and Treasurer JoAnn Plock. Librarians included: Linda Marget, Pat Ritchey, JoAnn Plock, Pam Nelson, Helen Daws, Mrs. Anderson, (seated) Sharon Smith. The studious Student Council: Back Row: Deb Boardman, Ron Lovegrove, Robert Galusha, Greg Cowins, 2nd Row: LuAnn Keller, Raye Lundberg, Deb Kinley, Bottom Row: Jay Snodgrass, Marcia Smith, Kim Thompsen, Bill Bauman, Barry Boardman. Dress-Up Day , Slouch Day, the lounge ... These new phrases around FHS were the result of the Student Council's hard work. After attending an enlightning convention at South Sioux City on November 14, 1970, the enthusiastic members began working on the student lounge and rented a pop machine. May 10, and 12, 1971 were the memorable days of Dress-Up Day , and Slouch Day.
