Band 13 S enior CL SS J4islory On September 1, 1948, 15 students entered kindergarten, beginning their 13 years of education in Fairmont Public Schools. They were Dick Hall, Jerry Gangstad, Ronald Bohling, Linda Moore, Connie West, Larry Kelch. Bob Roth, Marylee Tucker, Sharon Lansden, George Cantrell, Jeanne Martin, George Tomlinson, Sharon Heinz, Sherry Spier, and Dick Bockius. Mrs. Baker was our teacher. Karen Domeier entered at the start of the second semester, making 16 students. During the first grade we had 14 pupils. We lost Jeanne Martin and George Tomlinson. In the second grade we gained 5 students and lost none. Keith Salmon, Jack McIntyre, Wayne Ackerman, and Bob Pease were our new students. Miss Malsbury was our teacher in both first and second grades. Miss Hurst taught us for the nexttwoyears, during the third and fourth grades. There were 20 in our third grade class, losing Keith Salmon, while gaining Mervin Poggemeyer, Lloyd Tucker, and Robert Augustine. Charles Harmon, Ray Reisner, Frederick Churchill, Dick Havel, Frazier Burwell, Judy Kelly, and Doris Vodicka were all new students in the fourth grade. We lost Mervin Poggemeyer and Dick Hall, making the fourth grade our biggest class throughout our school years with 25. Our fifth grade class was made up of 22 students, and our teacher was Mrs. Steinmeyer. We gained only 2 students; Russel Kreachbaum and Glen Cudaback. We lost Robert Augustine, Charles Harmon, Jack McIntyre, Sherry Spier, and Judy Kelly. Betty Kline was a new class member in the sixth grade. We lost Frazier Burwell and Dick Bockius. Our teacher was Mrs. Bandemer. We then went up stairs and Miss Slezak taught us in the seventh grade. Frederick Churchill, Betty Kline, Russel Kreachbaum and Linda Moore all left. We gained no one, and had a class of 16. Our eighth grade class rose to 19 when Virginia White and Kennie Kinzie came. Judy Kelly also returned. We lost no one and our teacher was Mrs. Farrar. The next year 21 lowly green Freshmen were finally in high school. This year we gained Linda Kohler and Kay Bradbury, while Betty Kline also returned to us. We lost Kennie Kinzie. Our sponsor was the Home Economics teacher, Miss Faimon. During our sophomore year our sponsors were Mrs. Wolsleben and Mr. Rasmussen. Linda Moore came back from Geneva, and David Matson and Marcia Riley were also new members. Judy Kelly left us, along with Kay Bradbury and Linda Kohler. A new member in the Junior class was Sandra Trauernicht, and Judy Kelly returned once again. We had lost Sharon Heinz, Connie West, Lloyd Tucker, and during the year, David Matson. Our sponsors were Mrs. Steinke and Mr. Cumpston. The graduating class of 1961 has 19 members. Kay Unterseher was a new member and we lost Sharon Lansden. There are 5 graduating seniors who completed their entire schooling in Fairmont together. They are Jerry Gangstad, Bob Roth, George Cantrell, Larry Kelch, and Ronnie Bohling. Marilee Tucker and Karen Domeier have attended all but one semester. Our senior class sponsors were Mr. and Mrs. Mason. -Sponsor- O. K. To the Junior Class we will our seniority and infinite wisdom hoping they will keep as many names on the honor roll as we did. To the Sophomore Class we will our ambitions and successes. Also any old failures. To the lowly Freshmen we will our old papers, candy and gum wrappings, and thumb tacks, hoping they get the point. 1, WAYNE ACKERMAN, will my ability to be a smart farmer to all of the dumb city slickers. (They need it.) I, RONNIE BOHLING, will my musical ability to Charles Hulse in hopes he will play my trombone; and my position as Student Manager during football to Kelly Griffith. I, GEORGE CANTRELL, will my love for horror movies to Janet Uri; my flirting and dancing ability to Jim Washburn; my ability to get along with the teachers to Steve Bender and my hair to someone who promises never to cut it. I, GLEN CUDABACK, will my curly hair to Albert Radke; and my ability to skip school to Danny Perkins in hopes he will take over where I leave off. We, BETTY KLINE and SANDRA TRAUERNICHT, will our job of writing the Class Will to the unlucky Juniors who get it next year. _Sen ior C. la ii [- ophecy As we look 20 years into the future, we see the Senior Class of 1961 doing the following: WAYNE ACKERMAN is living on the outskirts of Fairmont, with his wife, 10 young kids, and still trying to make a profit off his potato crop. RONNIE BOHLING is a wealthy chemist in the DuPont laboratories, now specializing in the production of transparent space suits. GEORGE CANTRELL is a stunt man for Elvis Presley in his new film, One for the Road. In his spare time he is a hair stylist. GLEN CUDABACK is a zoo keeper in Estes Park, Colorado, and is now devoted to raising little cougars. KAREN DOMEIER has won the Miss Nebraska award and is now traveling to California for the Miss America contest with very high hopes. She has stayed single all these years, but still has all the boys chasing her. JERRY GANGSTAD is the manufacturer of a new automobile on the market, the Blue Angels,” which are noted for their durable bodies and unbreakable glass. DICK HAVEL has returned to his home town of Fairmont after completing coaching courses in college and now has completed a successful year of both football and basketball, with the only unbeaten team in the state. LARRY KELCH is happily married and making a career of the Navy, while also raising four young sons, who are following in their daddy's footsteps. JUDY KELLY is a racing car driver who just won the Indianapolis 500 and set a new world’s speed record. BETTY KLINE is a secret agent for the F.B.I. and is also noted for her wonderful bee crop, better known as Betty's Bees. LINDA MOORE is happily married and still working at Beaver’s. Her husband sells Occo Feeds. He took over where his father-in-law left off. BOB PEASE is the famous Sports Editor of the Grafton Times, and is well known for his famous sports predictions. MARCIA RILEY is happily married and has remained in Fairmont and has finally established the first TAVERN to be built in Fairmont. BOB ROTH is the No. 1 banker at the Farmers State Bank in Fairmont; during his spare time he runs his own little barber shop in the bank. While you wait for a loan, he will cut your hair for a small fee. SANDRA TRAUERNICHT, now MRS. TOM SNIDER, lives in Lushton with her husband and 15 children in their triple decker trailerhouse. Mr. Snider is a farmer. MARILEE TUCKER, (formerly), married Larry Pendergast and is now the No. 1 designer of the Pendergast Designing Co. of New York City. KAY UNTERSEHER is the Superintendent of Lushton Public Schools, and has a repu- tation for her methods of keeping order among her students; spanking, whip- ping, etc. DORIS VODICKA is still in Fairmont and is still looking for a husband. She has recently taken over the running of the mortuary. VIRGINIA WHITE, (formerly), married Dick Scheil and they are now famous as big game hunters in Africa. The homecoming game was played with Exeter on October 7, 1960. The float was placed between the goal posts at the south end of the field. Our homecoming turned our successfully this year, as we ended it with a victory of 40-14. A dance was held in the gym for F.H.S. students, alumni, and Exeter high school students. After Jane Heinz said grace, we were served a delicious meal. After we had eaten we had the pleasure of listening to Bruce Todd play his guitar and sing several songs. Bill Stuckey gave a welcoming address and Bob Pease replied with a few words of thank you. Elaine Long then introduced the royalty of Mardi Gras, King Jerry Gangstad and Queen Judy Kelly. They were elected by the members of the Junior and Senior classes. The music for dancing was provided by Glenn James and his band. MISSING: Joyce Tucker Sally Pease Judy Kelly Dennis Anderson On October 22 at 7 a.m., the Fairmont Marching Band left from the school house bound for the Annual Harvest of Harmony in Grand Island. The parade consisted of 104 units, 53 of which were bands. Judy Kelly, Fairmont's queen candidate, and the Fairmont band were units 98 and 99 respectively.
