The one-room school house will soon be o thing of the post in West Virginio FOREWORD In the past 100 years much has been achieved in our state, com- munity and school. West Virginia has grown from a small back- woods area to a beautiful indus- trial state. Our community has developed from a muddy road set- tlement to a large city, housing a state college, several commercial plants and other numerous enter- prises. Fairmont Senior High has grown from what was once a brick building on Quincy Street with a graduating class of four to one of the finest schools in the state con- sisting of an 11-acre campus on which nearly 900 students trod every day. Indeed much progress has been made. In recognition of our state's birthday, the 1963 Maple Leaves Staff would like to present this “Centennial Edition. The some school house os pictured above was erected lost summer on the campus of Fairmont State College to serve as a museum ond stote landmark. It was dedicoted in October and is the local headquarters for the centennial office.
