Paulus Voelzke Receives Nelson Award 8:15 P. M. May 24, 1948 That was the date! We were to grad- uate at last! As we sat stiflly side by side in our uniform caps and gowns, a certain tenseness fell over us. All around were the boys and girls we had known so long, grown up with, with whom we shared the same secrets and plans-and would share the problems before us. VVe were now embarking on a life -of our own, detached from too many of our old friendships. Quietly we listened to the commence- ment address, Citizens of One Worldn by Dr. Charles 1. Turckg then proudly we went forward to receive our diplo- mas. V We walked away, head high, hugging that coveted awardg there were lumps in our throats, and suddenly, we felt much older. JUNIOR CLASS OFFICERS VVilken. Forty-Niners The prom, junior dances, football, basketball, track, and baseball-all these activities packed into one school year, just nine months! One simply must start with the junior-Senior Prom. This is the biggest night of any junior's year. Amby Meyer had a wonderful band and we enjoyed danc- ing to his music immensely. The high school gym was a delightful reincarnation of the Mardi C-ras. Do you remember who took home seven balloons that fell from the ceiling? VVriting and practicing skits for the junior dances was nearly as much fun as the dances themselves. Parents, Night was a treat for us because our parents furnished the entertainment. VVhat junior could miss one of the football, basketball, baseball, or music con- tests? We were proud of the performances of our groups. Then too. there were our rings, private parties, getting the Echo out on time, and last, but definitely not least, our classes! But now receiving the gavel. we begin to realize that in another year we will be assuming new and greater responsibilitiesg yet eagerly we look forward to our last, biggest, and best year in Fairmont High School, Students' Night Out jane Blesi, Lois Fran ke, Regis Erickson Bob
