I ci ia is 5... xi f s, Y During its first ten years, Eairmont East set high standards in many areas. These areas included speech, music, sports, curriculum, and activities. Throughout its first decade, National Forensic League won many honors. ln l972 NFL won the Leading Chapter Award for excellence in programs. East's chapter was among the twenty- five leading scorers in the nation. East's music department offered a wide variety of choices to students. Band members participated in concerts, pep band, and marching. Throughout the decade the choral department and the orchestra produced several success- ful musicals. Sports at East improved steadily dur- ing the first ten years. ln the l972-73 season, East won first places in Western Ohio League competition in cross coun- try, football, and basketball. lvlany new programs were added to the curriculum during East's history. New classes and changes in old classes gave students opportunities to select according to their own personal inter- ests. Many students at East were involved in activities. Varied organizations and activities provided students with chances to pursue interests outside aca- demic areas.
