The reserves also came Through wiTh a perTecT record and, in addiTion, possessed The disTincTion oT being The ' TirsT reserve Team in EasT's hisTory To be unscored upon. Remembering Their O-O Tie lasT year, EasT soundly beaT WesT wiTh a score oT 5-O. This was The second Time EasT's Tield hockey Team had overcome WesT. EasT's mosT imporTanT game occurred aT The conclusion oT The season wiTh rival Oakwood. BoTh Teams were unde- TeaTed going inTo The game. Each had a dummy represenTing The oTher school, which They publicly massacred iusT beTore The game. Special awards given Tor The season were mosT spiriTed, JoAnn Kurzg mosT improved, Mary Kurz, mosT consisTenT deTensive player, Pam Brown: leading scorer, Gail McBroom, and mosT valua- ble player, Cheryl Baker. Ecist volleybcill tecim detects West tor seventh stroight yecir East's girls' volleyball team set ll new records. Deteating West tor the seventh successive time and scoring an all-time high ot 334 points tor the sea- son were only two ot the varsity team's accomplishments. The only loss handed to East was by a strong varsity Xenia team. East lost the tirst game 8-I5 but returned to win the second one I5-I I. ln the deciding game, however, Xenia deteated Eair- mont East by a slim two-point margin. To provide extra incentive and drive, two clubs were established tor the vol- leyball team. The Serving Points club required 25 points and the Spiking club required IO spikes. Grange, green, yel- low, and pink smile buttons were awarded, according to the number ot points served or spikes accomplished. On January 4, the volleyball banquet was held at Dot's Banquet Room. Spe- cial awards were leading scorer, Marcia Donaldson: most improved, Connie Myers: most points scored in three years, Marcia Donaldson: most valuable player, Debbie Vaught.
