Cultivcition ot ottice skills prepcires students tor tuture ti This year, the business department received several new ottice machines tor the use ot ottice practice students. The new electronic calculators and typewriters gave the students an oppor- tunity to become skilled in the opera- tion ot more business machines. ln her shorthand classes, Mrs. Virginia Baker tried to break the monotony ot the daily class routine by having stu- dents play educational games relating to the subject matter, such as Short- hand Relay and Shorthand Password. By playing these games, the students develop greater interest and speed in the subject. Typing classes learned to develop tin- ger movement co-ordination by typing in rhythm with records. An insurance salesman lectured to Mrs. Elizabeth Goertemiller's business math class on the importance ot tigures in the insur- ance business. Mrs. Mariorie Adler's business law classes visited the municipal court where they observed a trial. A tormer prosecuting attorney also talked with the classes about some ot the cases he had tried. Photogrophy hos too mony sign-ups too little room East students popularized photogra- phy class beyond expectations. Well over IOO students signed up: however, some juniors and sophomores could not talce the course. Still, many East students participated under three ditterent teachers. lvlr. John Tite, Mr. Dale Couchman, and Mr. Neal Charslce taught photography, with Mr. Couchman's having the only darlc- room. Due to necessity, lvlr. lite set up a malceshitt darkroom in room 408. Even though classes were large and room limited, students merited trom the course. Students learned how to take shots and develop them. Students even developed color pictures in lvlr. Couch- man's sections. Another new class was initiated in the industrial arts program. lvlrs. Linder, a tormer pilot, taught aviation, atter originating the course in a Saturday seminar. Aviation students dealt with varied aspects ot tlight. Students acquainted themselves with the operation ot air- cratt, specitically with the instrument panel.
