campm dean: dean lambert rutberford dean galanti teamed? dean pratt a university education can- not teach a man how to inane ence people, or guarantee his becoming a corporation execu- tive, or grant him limitless hap- piness. much of our practical knowledge, gained at great ex- pense, is almost obsolete by the time we are expected to use it, so quick are the develop- ments in the different flelds of knowledge. a university, however, should be able to impart to its stu- dents a certain sinewy capacity for thinking things through; a patience for long views; a sense of moral and intellecmal order; and a manner of life which helps the person to ap- proach every task and relation- ship with dignity and humility. by the time he graduates, a senior should have some feel- ing for what it means to be truly human. dean lambcrt madiwn 85
