Deon Pratt In the past four years, we have built together, in part by replication and in part by innovation, a community of scholars that is a distinctive social system expressive of a contemporary educational philosophy. The Class of 1968 will be absorbed into this structured community; the Class of 7964 had to help form the community. A few of the many aspects of that growth may be mentioned. There was the transformation of the carriage house into modern science laboratories, the stables into the Fine Arts center, the orangerie into the library, and the construc- tion of Twombly Hall with its facilities for nearly 500 dormitory students. The student community grew from a few hundred to a predicted 1,000 next fall, and the composition changed from a large majority of commuting students to a majority of residential students drawn in this last year from 13 states and 7 countries. A scattering of faculty grew into a community of nearly eighty, repre- sentative of the major fields of learning. Curricular growth was wide and deep. There was the launching of the first intercollegiate sport in 7960 and the growth into a seven team program next fall, the transformation of student government into the community system of Senate and Student-Faculty Board with ten sup- porting student-faculty committees, the invention of the athletic clubs, social societies, and the proliferation of the student clubs over the whole gamut of college life. While associating yourselves with this, each of you has attained your own personal educational objectives. Congratulations to each of you for the part you have played.

As culTural supervisor of The UniversiTy, Dr. Decker is in charge of The conTinuing search for new courses Dr. Clarence R. Decker and programs To be added To The presenT academic sTrucTure of The UniversiTy. In his capaciTy as Vice- PresidenT, he has Traveled all over The counTry and has sTudied The programs of many public and privaTe schools. As a resulT of his invesTigaTions and his desire To conTinue The culTural growTh of The UniversiTy, Dr. Decker has esTablished as one of his chieic goals The creaTing of a cenTer of humanisTic sTudies in The Col- lege of Liberal ArTs. Dr. Drake became ProvosT of Fairleigh Dickinson UniversiTy afTer serving as Chancellor aT The UniversiTy of Kansas CiTy. He is in charge of The adminisTraTion of universiTy academic policies concerning curriculum and personnel. His posiTion also involves appoinT- menT and reappoinTmenT of universiTy sTafT posiTions and regulaTion of sTafT salaries. Dr. Drake's policy is one of mainTaining a uni- versiTy aTmosphere which will aTTracT and reTain Teach- Dr. Richard Drake - ProvosT 6 Dr. Richard M. Drake ing abiliTy of The highesT caliber. Prior To his coming To The UniversiTy, he acquired exTensive and varied experience in sTudying The organizaTion, adminisTraTion, and financing of colleges and uni- versiTies ThroughouT The counTry. In addiTion To working on a number of naTional healTh research proiecTs, Dr. Gillen is a conTribuTor To The Encyclo- pedia BriTannica and has had numerous books and arTicles of his own pub- lished. WiTh so much experience To his crediT, H is no wonder ThaT Dr. Gillen can efTicienle handle The difficulT Task of making sure The Evening Division runs smooTth. Paul B. Gillen 4, Evening School DirecTor AfTer being DirecTor of AThleTics for one year, Mr. Naiarian was ap- poinTed DirecTor of STudenT AcTiviTies in 1960. As DirecTor, his responsibiliTies include coordinaTing all co-curricular acTiviTies: culTural, aThleTic, social, re- ligious and moral. In addiTion, Mr. Naiarian is always Trying To improve sTu- denT-faculTy relaTionships Through various commiTTees and informal programs. A growing campus means more acTiviTies; more acTiviTies means more coordi- naTion. WiTh a modern ouTlook on college life, dedicaTion To his profession, and sincere inTeresT in The well-being of The sTudenTs, Madison is TorTunaTe To have as iTs AcTiviTies DirecTor, Nishan Naiarian. Nishan Naiarian DirecTor of STudenT AcTiviTies Mr. RoberT Shoemaker has been DirecTor of Admissions aT The Madison campus of Fairleigh Dickinson UniversiTy since OcTober, 1958. Since ThaT Time, he has succeeded in esTablishing a favorable repuTaTion wiTh The faculTy, sTafT, and sTudenTs of The UniversiTy, as well as wiTh many high school and Transfer sTudenTs seeking admission. In his efforTs To selecT, wiTh equal fairness, honesTy, and inTegriTy a cerTain quanTiTy of qualiTy individuals To enTer The UniversiTy, Mr. Shoemaker aT Times proves a diFFiculT barrier To incoming sTu- denTs. BUT, neverTheless, he is an asseT boTh To The hard-working sTaFf of which he is The head and To The UniversiTy as a whole. Robert P. Shoemaker DirecTor of Admissions When Mr. Emory FirsT became a sTaHC member in June 1958, his posiTion included, in addiTion To regisTraTion and records, such responsibiliTies as park- ing co-ordinaTor, civil defense, fire and safeTy, firsT-aid, audio-visual aids, and co-ordinaTor of The Evening Division. Presenle, Mr. Emory is fully occupied wiTh The demands of adminisTraTive work for The rapidly expanding Madison campus. The regisTrar's Task is noT an easy one; he musT follow every sTu- denT's academic progress from The momenT of accepTance unTil The day of graduaTion.
