Dr. William Smith-Director Continuing in the Fine tradition which it started in 1960, the Health Research Institute is still searching for the cures of the modern diseases that plague mankind. In addition to having its own professional researchers, the Lab enables out- standing students the opportunity to learn while being paid. Most of the undergraduates that work on proiects in the Lab are in the science held; this Health Resea rch Lab Smith, W. Badollet, M. Luddecke, H. Bierenbaum, M. Miller, L. Burtan, B. Reed Churg, J. Selikoft Elsasser, R. Yacowitz, H. Hubert, M. Yazdi, E. training, therefore, is a great asset and often serves as an incentive to further the student's in- terest in the medical world. This year was of par- ticular interest to the people in the Lab because of the widely publicized articles on the role of cigarettes as a cause for lung cancer. Dr. Smith and his colleagues have been experimenting with white mice since the establishment of the Lab and have done many experiments in the same area. Drs. Yudi and Smith 23
