During The Third and TourTh years, how- ever, a heavy concenTraTion on philosophy courses is noTed: AncienT and Medieval Philosophy, Modern PhiIOSOphy, EThics, ConTemporary Philoso- phy, Social and PoliTical PhiIOSOphy, and Philoso- phy Seminar. NoT only has The language laboraTory been expanded To an ideal TwenTy sTudenT capaciTy, buT The size of The faculTy has been increased To a ToTal of four professors and insTrucTors. IT is hoped ThaT a new language will be added nexT year To The exisTing oHerings of French, German, Russian and Spanish. To creaTe and culTivaTe an inTeresT in language, an annual language show is presenTed which sTu- clenTs aT local high schools aTTend wiTh greEaT inTer- esT and enThusiasm. A promising lisT of exTra-curricular culTural en- deavors is planned for The language sTudenTs by The deparTmenT. To menTion a few: A New York Spanish TheaTer performance on The Madison Campus; a visiT by a conTemporary Spanish play- wrighT, Federico Garcia Lorca; a reciTal of French poeTry by a well-known French acTor; and The organizaTion of a language club on campus which will meeT informally in The homes of The advisors. Hemingway, Sandburg, FrosT -- These are names which many saluTe, including faculTy and sTudenTs aT Fairleigh Dickinson UniversiTy. lT would noT be so very surprising, however, some Dr. E. Beginning in his firsT year, The English major is exposed To an overall view of liTeraTure which, in Time, is narrowed To The specific: sTudies in poeTry, The modern novel, The drama, Shakespeare, Chaucer, Milton and The selecTed sTudy , which is an inTense endeavor in any area of liTeraTure. The faculTy, wiTh The eFForTs of The LiTerary Club and oTher groups, has presenTed many lecTures, panel discussions, and guesT speakers To The sTUdenT body. Two highlighTs of The year were lecTures given by Madison's Dr. Irving H. Buchen and Mr. T. J. Ross, who spoke on D. H. Lawrence and J. D. Salinger, respecTively. Magazine publicaTion is anoTher aspecT of The liTerary acTiviTies on campus. CurrenT publicaTions include: lmpacT, The magazine of The LiTerary Club, ConnoTaTion, UniversiTy Woman, The FDU Freshman AnThology, and Names, a periodical ediTed by Dr. E. Wallace McMullen, chairman of The English DeparTmenT.
