Yea! Rah! Hornets! Coach Max E. Bell and his gang have proven to us that the Fairland Hornets have a greater sting than those found elsewhere in Shelby County. Fairland is the only county school to capture two county tourneys, and two sectionals in a row. It is an unusual record for a team to have five regulars placed at the top of the list of the all-tourney selections as was the case ip the section- al. They certainly made a well-balanced team in their ability to score and to handle the ball. We must not overlook the fact that the subs were ever ready to go in and take over on numerous occasions. They proved to us that they had just what it takes, when they took over to help win an overtime game with jackson Twp. in the tournament at Hope. Up to the time of the county tourney the Hornets have won nine games and lost one. They held the best offensive and defensive marks. They had a high-powered offensive average of 58.3 points per game and a defensive average of 38.8 points per game. The first five found places among the first eleven in the scoring race of the county. During the three county tourney games the five placed them- selves among the top nine of the county. The Hornets topped the list of sectional tourney teams in the number of ga.mes won during the season. Their record was eighteen won and two lost. They were followed by the Clifford Panthers' 15-4. They won the Sectional Tourney the hard way. Shelbyville, Columbus and Mt. Auburn were the three toughest teams of the group. They had a close game with Shelbyville which ended with a 4-0-35 victory but they had no trouble in gaining a lead on Columbus and Mt. Auburn and staying ahead all the way in their last two games of the Sectional. The Hornets went on to win their first game in the Regional which was with the Whiteland Warriors. Thus they entered into the finaltilt with the Madison Cubs as they did in '49, They ended the season with a good game even though they lost to Madison. They proved to be good losers. They closed the season with a 56.6 offensive average and a 40.8 defensive average. In conclusion to you, Coach Bell and the Fairland Hornets of '49 and '50, we wish to say, Well Done , and Good Luck . 27
