I know we have come such a long, long way, And yet we keep striving for an even better day. But let us go back to year number one, And see if we can trace our development - with fun! At first there was LTV Dr. Hutton, open classrooms Sigma Road, no grass Ms. Sego was teaching class But then in 1973, We had Purdue the cat, We moved to Churchill Way, in mass. And chickens and mice. We rode a bus to the Y to swim and exercise. We had one big room for lunch and a catering truck from which to munch. Then we grew and grew. We got a building which was new. We added teachers and students - there was so much to do We became accredited k-8 and started working on 9-12, Though we hated to have to wait. But now with our first decade out of the way, We have another new building and accreditation ll prayll. So yes, Dear Fairhill, it's true to the letter. You're not only getting older, you're also getting BETTER!! , if 'Q , 1 ,YK rx V' U V. 57 ,- Sir V 'il fm 5' . if 'F .fn , Ji if fri 'dlllaw-q...,N f - ........-a-uggmm-W in lui:-f V5 v ff? if 'N 5 'w..x C , 25 . They're still students here, But they've grown so big! There have been so many changes over the years. We soon will have graduates, beginning careers. But some things at Fairhill won't change. Despite the cold and sometimes rainy weather, everyone had a ter- rific time learning about nature, astronomy, and play- ing games. Among the many highlights of the trip were the delicious meals cooked by the campers. Because of everyone's participation and enthusiasm, our trip to Eisen- hower State Park, was a wonderful experience that many of us will never forget. The first camping trip was so fantastic that the daycam- pers at summer school took a camping trip too. F. . ,wr ' 2 H -' wt, .. That's a great picture of us Let's all gather at the weII. Vinum me Aww 'fifth l sf GRADUATION Bobby Dever Man of the Hour 'Nt I , 0 d Final comments from Dr. Wilson were sentimental as Fairhill says good-by. Faculty and spouses had a lovely time too. The food and company were excellent. On May 23, 1980, Fairhill School graduated its first senior, Bobby Dever. Mr. and Mrs. Dever very graciously invited all of the junior class and Bob's teachers to a graduation dinner at the Chapparel Club. It was a lovely dinner and evening which everyone will always remember. s igj. ,ff e i lt': ,W , Ji Migof '?I11m,,: . f f Y SX? 37,4152 '4,, V, ' f ' k it ' tv , gf' K1 Q ull :JA '-tix, V. v- , , ' f N ffffg 953996 f if QL! Let us reflect on the major events Of the world and nation too. Vietnam has come and gone. Flight or wrong - who's to say. But the memories will linger on For this and another decade. The students at Kent State Thought it was wrong. . They protested' the National Guard came. Bang! Bang! four lives were gone! The Munich Olympics in '72 Were filled with heartache For more than a few. The entire Israeli Olympic team Was murdered by the PLO lt wasn't just a dream. Then there was Watergate Oh what a waste! The careers that were ruined: The consequences they faced. Patty Hearst became a household word. First she was kidnapped. And later it was heard That she joined with her captors. the SLA. And became a bank robber. As in the olden days. But this little tale has a happy ending for you. She gave herself up. Served part of her time. Was pardoned. then married. l swear it's all true! Our mighty nation became 200 years old. The Bicentennial celebrations let the story unfold. Pope John Paul ll made an unprecedented first. He took a world tour and talked to the nations. Yankee Stadium almost burst. How proud we were to welcome the Pope. He spoke ol world peace. and we all had hope. We had exhibits galore from King Tut to Pompeii. We saw them and marveled at the treasures of that day. This decade was costly: so many famous people gone. But their movies. records. and accomplishments Will make their memory linger on. We lost John Lennon. Bing Crosby. and Elvis the King. We lost Janis Joplin. Jimi Hendrix. How they could sing! We lost Big John Wayne. Freddie Prinz, Jimmy Durante too. Jack Benny. L.B.J.. Hubert Humphrey. Just to name a few. Jack Nicklaus was named the athlete of the decade. Seeing him play was a must. Hank Aaron broke Babe Ruth's homerun record. The Cowboys won the Superbowl twice! They were loved and called America's team. Everyone thought it was nice v except Pittsburg. And now to the presidents. How many there were. We had Nixon - the first to quit while he served. We had Ford - the first not to be elected. We had Carter - between Ford and him. he was selected And now we have Reagan, the biggest first by far. He's the oldest. a divorcee. and an ex-movie star. And then there were the fads We'll only mention a few. There is not enough room To tell all there was to do. We had streakers and cowboy boots. Star Wars and designer leans. LED watches were DYNOMlTE And Donna Summer was the Disco Queen. The Bee Gees were number one. And John Travolta was all the way. Farrah Fawcett. Kermit and Miss Piggy. And the Fonz with his famous Heeeey. The skirt length went from mini to midi. And the double pierced ears were the rage. We roller skated and iogged along. No one cared about their age. The number 10 took on a new meaning As Bo Derek arrived with class. The American people waited in incredible lines To pay a dollar a gallon for gas! And as this ten years came to a close. The American Embassy in Iran Was attacked by militants f students they said And the word was heard throughout the land, 52 American citizens became hostages that day. And in Iranian captivity they were forced to stay For 444 miserable days. There were many more events in these past 10 years. Look back on them all and remember With fondness or with tears. And as the older generation Talks of the good old days. Just remember that these are yours To look back at later and praise. May the future ol Fairhill And the world lydeclare - Be filled with happiness. significance. and helpfulness For everyone. everywhere, I I 7 ! This year is almost over.
