Co-editors: John ioli rill and Kim Buff Bduisor: Mrs. Susan Baidpim Principal’s Address To the Class of 1988 Congratulations to each of you on this special occasion, your graduation from Fairhaven High School. You have completed the tasks assigned, you have met your goals and given of yourselves; your public school days are done and the reward of graduation is yours. During your years at this school the staff has been pleased to see the physical growth, the mental maturity and the spirit of inner confidence you have developed. You have accepted what was given, but you have given too, and your contributions have added to that growth and development. Look back at these days of your youth with joy and peace. May what you have learned here be the foundation of your future success. 2 Huttlestonian Staff vy | w IaW v M | a. L P J 2® L-R — P. Costa, L. Barcellos, C. Gormley, M. Bourgault, M. Elliott, K. She has many fond memories of her exchange experience. Karen especially enjoyed the “awesome” food and pastries which are served daily at tea time. She spent a week in Bonn and also toured the Netherlands. She is looking forward to having her German sister Ulrike come for a visit this summer. Karen hopes to return to Emden in the near future. RACHMAD FAUZI Rachmad “Oji” Fauzi, our American Field Service Exchange Student is from Balikpapan, Indonesia. “Oji,” spent the First half of his year in the United States with the Cottrill family in North Fairhaven and spent his remaining time with Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Voter of Sconticut Neck. “Oji” had many memorable experiences in Fairhaven. He enjoyed our homecoming floats and dance. He was very excited with his First snow storm, however, he does prefer the warmer climate of Indonesia. “Oji” also enjoyed being a member of the winter track team, and as of this writing, hoped to play baseball in the spring. We all wish “Oji” the very best in his future endeavors. 65 Student Life 66 Friends and Memories 67 Junior Prom 68 May 1, 1987 69 On Friday, May 1, 1987 the Class of 1988 held their Junior Promenade. The highli outstanding season a ft? difficult t wi lleT cro CONF tory , the gra en d am erbowl 115 Soccer A second year program, a second cham¬ pionship! It was the early morning Sunday practices, the great coaching and caring hearts of Coach Gal vim and Coach Fox which led us to a W-.l-l season. Over confidence was ev¬ ident when a 3-0 lead collapsed to a 5-3 loss to Nauset in the States. However, ' the sun did 1 shine the following day but with a shadow of a disappointing memory. Remember “come harder ..., you on vacation . ’ ., ?! @ the bed ...”, and most important, “You guys are different, like a family.” Thank you team of ’87. 116 Row 1 — P. Hubert, T. Bettencourt, L. There were many highlights to their successful season. 10-20-87, beating Case High School who hadn’t been beaten in two years!!, going to States, beating O.R.R. in the first game of the tournament and beating Ursline Academy in the second. Two on two tournaments in practice. “Whatever” Coach Childs said during time outs. Field Hockey Although their record was not impressive, the field hockey team had a lot of bright spots. They ended their season with a 2-2-14 record. The girls all played hard and remained competitive throughout the entire season. Remember ... The perennially strong girls’ team built a 7-1 record behind the leadership of their all-star captain, Julie Isaksen, who ran second in the Conference meet. The boys’ team after h aving compiled two winless seasons found a potentially strong nucleus among their younger runners and managed to finish at a respectable 3-5. While the girls will hope to replace their arch rival, Seekonk, as S.C.C. champions, the boys will have a legitimate shot at a winning sea¬ son. 123 Boy’s Basketball Another year — another tournament berth. The Devil’s dribbled their way to a 16-4 rec¬ ord and a fourth straight year of post-season play. Never forget ... Dartmouth Holiday Tournament Champs ..., Jake’s 1,000 point ... , Victory over Apponequet ... , Jake’s dunk at Seekonk. 124 Row 1 - S. Mclanphy, M. Gonsalves, T. Davignon, C. Patenaude, S. The bright spots were the 5-4 vic¬ tory over O.R.R. in the final seconds and the 7-5 crushing win over South Shore Voke. It was the first year for head coach Ed Silva who will return next year to coach the Devils along wit h the new assistant. Bob Ledger. 126 Row I _ D. Frates, B. Walecka, A. Ferland, B. Becotte, C. Thank you coach Belanger and Medeiros. There were many outstanding individual perfor¬ mances. Remember ... the wild and noisy bus rides, “you’re a jerk ... UHH! it is drip¬ ping again” ... the times you got sick and the feeling of satisfaction after you did the best you could. Row 1 — S. Corrao, T. Pottel, A. Couto, S. Guillotte, W. Hotte. Row 2 — C. This year’s winter track season was an ex¬ citing one for all who participated. The girls ended their season with a 5-1 record and had many memorable experiences. There were many personal victories as well as team suc¬ cesses. 133 PRIDE PRIDE PRIDE PRIDE 134 SPIRIT SPIRIT SPIRIT SPIRIT 135 Have you tried the punch? Cats do what in this pit?!! 137 In Tribute To We, the Class of 1988, wish to extend our sincere gratitude to someone who has given so much of herself to the students at Fairhaven High School. Often times we were not pleased to be summoned by her; however, her “no-nonsense” approach and effi¬ cient manner resulted in getting things done. Mrs. Martin has al¬ ways demonstrated professional¬ ism and could also, at any time, be relied upon as a friend. With re¬ spect, love, and good wishes for a well deserved retirement we would like to pay tribute to Mrs. Evelyn L. Martin. Mrs. Evelyn L. Martin 138 Welcome The Class of 1988 was fortunate enough to experience the arrival and inception of a new superin¬ tendent of schools when Dr. Ronald B. Hoekstra began his po¬ sition in the spring of our junior year. Dr. Hoekstra spent his first summer in Fairhaven getting to know our schools and our town. He has been a very visible super¬ intendent and many of the stu¬ dents at Fairhaven High School have had personal contact with him. We would like to officially, as a class, welcome Dr. Hoekstra to our town and wish him success in attaining the greatest potential possible for the Fairhaven school system. Dr. Ronald B. Hoekstra 139 In Memory Of Timothy Abraham Silva July 29, 1970-June 23, 1983 As this would have been Timmy’s year of graduation, we did not want to have a yearbook without remembering him. As we graduate we need to be reminded that life is a very precious gift. We should all strive to attain and meet our goals and live life to the fullest. Special Thanks To Mrs. Michelle Burt MR.
