I had the pleasure of leading the majorettes into competition and coming out victorious. After practicing almost constantly for three weeks, many of us were ready to call it quits. For two weekends in a row, we travelled to competitions. In the first, we received three 1st places and one 2nd place trophy out of five events. In the second competition, we received first place trophies in all the events we entered in open competition, and four first place trophies and one second place trophy in the state competition. Anne Morseth is here under the S.A.S. exchange program and Sigrun Aadnegard, the American Field Service. Both girls have been active in numerous school activities including Marching Band and A.F.S. Club as well as school athletics such as track and volleyball. We all wish Anne and Sigrun the very best of luck and hope their stay in Fairhaven will leave them with many happy memories. 144 This year the A.F.S. program was pleased to be able to send four students abroad. David Fernandes went to Belgium, and Terri Correia went to Costa Rico for the summer. The two students who lived abroad for a full year are Jenny Lombardo and Wendy Benoit. Jenny stayed in Brisbane, Australia, while Wendy stayed in Chile. 145 146 library aides row 1: Robert Benoit, Sue Novak, Karen Goulart, Sandy Jenson row 2: Mark Cabral, Terri Correia, Steve Guillotte, Jeff Peletier a.v. aides Jeff Careiro, Jeff Peletier, Mark Cabral, Steve Guillotte office aides row 1; Anne Barcellos, Rebecca Ripley, Cheryl Rapoza, Judy Costa, Lisa Ryan row 2: Linda Gouveia, Yvette Pineau, Judy Dabrowski row 3: Chris Bernard, Suzanne Miller, Amy Foster 147 “the song of the west” 148 On July 18, the arduous journey ended. All seven of us, Bob Espindola, Mark Dion, Peter Arsenault, Jim Burns, Angus Mackay, Bill Sparrow, and I concluded our round trip peddling to Montreal. Preparing for the trip took many months and a lot of effort from the group as a whole. But it wasn ' t just us. The Fairhaven Rotary Club established many of our nightly accomodations along the way, including one in Montreal. Previous to the trip, we took pledges for the American Cancer Society. Our grand total of pledge money garnered for cancer research was well above our estimated $2,000. In return for our hard work, the Cancer Society made it possible for our fund-raising advertisements and daily updates to be broadcast over the radio. Our expedition will remain in our memories forever as one of endless enjoyment and determination. Thank you to all who supported us!
