Dedication When an author writes a book, he dedicates it to the person or persons who’ve helped him the most while he was writing the book. We, as Seniors, are not only the characters of this book, but we are also the authors. So, why don’t we, as authors and as individuals, dedicate this book to those people who have done the most for us during our three years at FHS? Why don’t we dedicate this book to our FRIENDS? Can’t we all think of a special friend or friends we’d like to say Thank you” to? Think back and remember those little things. Remember lending homework papers, and laughing at each other’s jokes? And remember those late nights together, cramming for a test, or frantically typing up a term paper? We’ve helped each other every step of the way. What about those other times — those times when we sat together quietly, and talked — frankly and earnestly — about ourselves, our future, our lives? We’ve shared so much — our confidence, our trust, our hope, our thoughts, and our feelings — we’ve shared ourselves. We’ve helped each other to learn and to grow. We’ve helped each other to reach the last chapter of this book together. So, as authors of our book, let’s each of us dedicate this part of our lives to ourselves — to our friends — to each other. 7

We’re captive on the carousel of time . • • « round and round and round in the circle Life is a carousel — a never-ending circle of that precious thing we call time. We’re all riding this carousel of life. What are we doing with this time” as we travel along I Ml: ' 325 - f JPjSsSP - s%?. r- ,:; . A i on the carousel? Are we sitting back and just riding the carousel — a long, boring, monotonous, uneventful ride? Or are we sitting up and riding with eagerness and anticipation, always riding the ups and downs, and enjoying the ride with the others on the carousel? Are we sitting back and gazing idly at the scenery as it passes by? Or are we really trying, as we go by, to see, and observe, and learn about that scenery? Are we sitting back and letting the carousel carry us where it will, content to waste our time forever traveling in meaningless, pointless circles? Or are we taking a chance in this game of life — are we using our precious time striving to find fulfillment and meaning in our lives by trying to grab and secure that elusive golden ring of the carousel — that secret of happiness and meaning? This is what Joni Mitchell is asking us in THE CIRCLE GAME. And it’s up to each one of us to find our own answers to her questions . -a
