Color- Guard gftiM The Color Guard, an important part of F.H.S.’s half-time show, proudly displayed the flags of the nation, state and school. They are a colorful addition to the school pageantry. Don 7 Come to Me With Expectations of Who I Should Be. Come and Let Me Show You Precisely Who I Am. Fairhaven. Guidance Counselor. Football Coach. Weight Program. What would the administration be like? Most importantly, what were the young people like? Are young people pretty much alike wherever you go? Needs? My abilities (if any?) Do they match up? Ability to share true concern for one another? Concern about growing and helping others grow? This jock- head business? Discipline, especially self-discipline? Self-orient? How big were the walls? Family bit? Honesty with others and especially with myself. Willingness to communicate. What would my new commitment be like? The guidance counselor’s job started rather slowly. The 10th graders were the ones most willing to take a good look at themselves. They undertook the task of mapping out some type of “Game Plan for the year ahead. They were willing to look at things as they were, attempting to cope with the situation. As the year progressed the guidance job took on more meaning and I was fortunate enough to become involved with some fine young people. Mr. Grabiec, Mr. Albritton, and Dr. Donnelly, the new Guidance Director, were especially helpful and encouraging. Their concern for each youngster in FHS is genuine. In football, we were especially fortunate in getting off on the right foot with a championship team, and a win over Dartmouth on “Turkey Day.” Again, we found ourselves surrounded by a fine coaching staff, including Mr. Losert, Mr. Rich, Mr. Risgin, Mr, Bender, Mr. Fernandes, and Mr. Almeida. Mr. Entin, A.D., denied us nothing and helped us in many ways. The 1975 Fairhaven High Football team was a group of unusual young men. We came to know the team members through small group meetings held last spring and summer. The good fortune of having a weight machine purchased enabled our people to begin a strength building program, which paid great dividends. As the football season progressed, the team took on a certain personality. It seemed that they reached a point where they could honestly evaluate themselves. This is when we really came to appreciate the Fairhaven Football player. He dared to be honest with himself, and once he did this, the team concept and growth in other areas came easily. A spirit of cooperation and hard work led to achievement. From the week prior to the Bishop Feehan game until Thanksgiving Day, the young men on this team were a true joy to be with. They were honest. It was a wonderful experience to share with these people, that last month. They made the coaching staff look good. 30
