No one man or his nation can assume a position of isolationism in today’s world. You all have a responsibility to form the future of this nation, and your efforts will be judged by others who will follow in your steps. The direction that you decide upon will determine whether our nation will continue as an able and unselfish leader among the nations of the world. My congratulations to you as you receive your diplo¬ mas from Fairhaven High School. We were now Sophomores fighting for our recognition amongst the lofty upper¬ classmen. To direct us in our struggle were: Kathy Morgan, President; Pamela Holden, Vice-President; Dawn Birtwistle, Secretary; Maureen Harrison, Trea¬ surer. Assisting them was the Executive Board, com¬ posed of Shelley Lauzon, Carol Santos, Gayle Carval¬ ho, Charles Humphreys, and Jane Howland. In prepa¬ ration for our future activities we, guided by our advi¬ sor Mr. Borowiec, sold chocolate Easter bunnies. To assure us of our upperclassman status as Juniors, we received our class rings early in October. To lead us through this very important year, we elected Dawn Birtwistle, President; Charles Humphreys, Vice- President, Jane Tucker, Secretary; Andrew Rapp, Treasurer. Frank Almeida, Cheryl Borowicz, John Clark, Pamela Holden, and Ann Maloney made up the Executive Board. Mr. Borowiec once again guid¬ ed us in our class project of selling fruitcakes. In Janu¬ ary, Andrew Rapp left for New Zealand as Fairhav- en’s American Field Service representative. Shelley Lauzon, Jane Howland, Kathy Perry, Kay Bennett, Joanne Chicco, Rosemary Fernandes, Laurice Con¬ don, Philip Gidley, Richard Garro, Judith Tyson, Linda Driesen, and Curtis Macomber were inducted into the Honor Society in late March. Our Junior Prom, held on May 9 was a memorable occasion for everyone. The Larch Avenue Auditori¬ um was decorated with flowers and lights for our theme, Once Upon a Dream.” The highlight of the evening was the crowning of the beautiful queen, Kathy Morgan. She was attended byBette Cunha, her Lady-in-Waiting; Kathy Bouley, Debbie Morris, Donna Sowa, Dawn Birtwistle, Gayle Carvalho, Pam¬ ela Holden, Kay bennett, and Ann Maloney. The long awaited anticipation of being Seniors ended on Junior Day, when we assumed the responsi¬ bility of the school. In the traditional ceremony, Dawn Birtwistle accepted the symbolic mantle of leadership from the graduating Senior president. Soon the summer passed and our Senior year had finally arrived. We elected Charles Humphreys, Presi¬ dent; Frank Almeida, Vice-President; Dawn Birt¬ wistle, Secretary; and Shelley Lauzon, Treasurer as our class officers. The members of the Executive Board were: Michael Amaral, Bette Cunha, Jane Howland, Ann Maloney, Deborah Morris, and Claudia Sobral. With the aid of Mr. Silva, we sold boxes of candy for our class project. We were fortunate to have two for¬ eign exchange students this year. Carin Alfredsson came to us from Sweden and Luiz Zanolli, from Bra¬ zil. Our AFS student, Andrew Rapp, returned to us in January with much to tell everyone about New Zea¬ land. The senior play, Everybody’s Crazy,” was pre¬ sented on March 13 and 14. After long hours of re¬ hearsal, the cast put on a fine performance directed by Mr. Paquin. We all realized how close we were to ending our high school career on June 5. The Senior Prom was held at White’s Restaurant. This was the last dance we attended as a class and it will stay locked in our hearts forever. On June 7 the solemn Vespers ceremo¬ nies were held, followed on June 8 by our banquet, also at White’s Restaurant. The climax of all our high school days came on June 10, Graduation Day. This last day of achievement finished our collection of memories of Fairhaven High School. 1970 Class Will While browsing through the pages of our most sacred remains, you may chance upon this will which legally dis¬ tributes our personal property to fortunate, but utterly helpless individuals, who have the sympathy of the brilliant, kind- hearted, and charitable students of the Senior Class. Thou’rt slave to fate, chance, kings, and desperate men, And dost with poison, war, and sickness dwell; And poppy or charms can make us sleep as well And better than thy stroke. Why swell’st thou then? One short sleep past, we wake eternally, And death shall be no more: Death, thou shalt die! John Donne American Service This year F.H.S. became better acquainted with Brazil as we welcomed foreign exchange student Luiz Carlos Zanolli. A citizen of Tupa, Brazil, Luiz arrived in the United States in Au¬ gust with a large group of exchange students from South America. He lives with his American Parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Humphreys and their son Charlie at 113 Pleasant Street. Luiz’s real father is a pharma¬ cist, and he has several brothers and sisters at home. We shall never forget our Brazilian” on the football field attempting extra points, or his great enthusiasm for a new sport. Around school, Luiz is constantly talking with friends and teach¬ ing us how they do things in Brasil.” As the year ends, Luiz will say good-bye to his many friends at F.H.S. We hope he will remem¬ ber his days with us, for we shall never forget our days with him. ?ie!d Students We were fortunate this year to have two ex¬ change students at F.H.S. Carin Alfredsson, from Ludvika, Sweden, lives with Mr. and Mrs. Frank Birtwistle and their family at 254 Main Street. Carin’s family in Sweden consists of two brothers, which is quite different from three American sisters.” Her hometown is much like Fairhaven, and there Carin enjoys sailing , skiing, and being with friends. We shall never forget the Swede” at football games with the Pep Squad, talking with friends, or learning American customs and traditions. Carin has been a friend to many of us, and we hope she will have many memories of F.H.S. to take home with her. ANDREW RAPP In January of ’69 one of our classmates, Andy Rapp, left Fairhaven to attend an all boys school, King’s High, in Dunedin, New Zealand. There he lived with the D. H. Wallace family of Wingatui, a small town ten miles outside of Dunedin. In New Zealand Andy had three brothers, Russell 17, Owen 14, Malcolm 5. Andy assures us that he really had a great time in his adopted country. While there he played Rugby, which is the New Zealand form of football. The best thing of his whole year was the many long-lasting friendships that he made.
