Albrit¬ ton, our Vice-Principal. His guidance and willing leadership have been a help to many troubled students. We are indeed fortunate to have been influ¬ enced by such an unselfish, hard-working man. In fact, it is he who has dedicated everything to us. With this small recognition, we thank Mr. Al¬ britton for his leadership, and most 3f all, his friendship. UaS e °f (Jon en s ‘ 1 0.he S7m p oss 1 S e 7)re am 1 ’ S7n JlTemoriam to ItTr. Realizing that this unencountered phase is unpredictable, each of you, no doubt, has a dream—a goal which you hope to have realized. This dream may seem to be un¬ reachable, yet this impossible” dream may be possible if you are determined and prepared to meet its challenge. Whatever your dream, it is essential to consider whether or not the goals you seek to achieve include an awareness, a concern, an understanding, a love for mankind. Should not each of us share this dream with its author Langston Hughes? I dream a world where man No other will scorn Where love will bless the earth And peace its path adorn. I dream a world where all Will know sweet freedom’s way And every man is free Of such I dream— Our World. As you join the alumni of Fairhaven High School, I am sure you will find value in the lessons you have learned. To the class of 1968, may your highest dream become your achievement in life. The class of ’70 entered school this fall eagerly anticipating the first of three years in Fairhaven High. The year has passed swiftly bringing many enjoyable experiences along with the meeting of old friends and the making of new. The traditional Sopho¬ more Slump’’ has passed and we are now at full strength for the final two years. The sophomore class’ initial project was the sale of chocolate Easter Bunnies, which proved very successful. After pausing a moment to think of the year that has passed, we now look ahead to our next two years; to all the experiences which we are yet to encounter that will assist in the molding of our future. The members of the class felt dis¬ tinguished upon the arrival of their rings in November. Everyone in the class is look¬ ing forward to the prom in May, and since it’s leap year the boys better watch it. The class feels that this year has helped to prepare its members for their future years ahead. Richard Arieta, the head mentor, was advised by two new assistants, Milton Rice and Louis Klaiman. Elected as team captain was Gilbert Vieira. The Blue Devils -opened its abbreviated sea¬ son by defeating Old Rochester. Constant in¬ juries and bad breaks throughout the season brought about a record of three wins and five losses. With the return of only two varsity starters, it seemed improbable that the preceding, undefeated season would be reason¬ ably duplicated. Fortune, however, graced the 1968 performances on the basketball courts. The Blue Devils reclaimed their titles as monarchs of the Capeway Conference by going undefeated in that league. Three non-league contests, however, were dropped to the opposition. The guidance of Coach Wilson proved to be the major factor in uniting a squad that was esteemed by the student body. For the benefit of the Athletic Department, the Blue Devils challenged the Capeway Conference All Stars. With the absence of Lester Smith and an early injury to Jim Hart, Coach Wilson was compelled to utilize his versatile bench. In spite of defeat the players presented themselves as worthy opponents for the best in the league. The second post-season contest was the Tech Tourney game against Sharon. Fairhaven arrived at the neutral court with the epithet of underdogs. Sharon High had the height advantage as well as an ad¬ vantage of healthy personnel. The Blue Devils defied the odds and fought valiantly, only to suffer a bitter two-point defeat. Nevertheless, pride and spirit still remain for the 1968 basketball team. __ f 1 I - w i K w r j i m The Chosen Few 55 Kneeling: L. Kruger, A. Costa, W. Ornellas, W. Morgan, L. Smith, C. Adriano, B. During the 1967 season the Wilsonmen compiled a record slightly over the five-hundred mark. Many of the losses were attributed to a patchy defense. On the bright side of the season were the stellar performances on the mound by Gilly Vieira and Daryl Manchester. The field events loom as a most improved department adding a strong element of depth and balance for Coach Milt Rice’s team. Besides this spirited contest F.H.S. hopes to outdo their previous performance as runner-up in the Belmont Relays. At the State Meet, Dave Mendell hopes to steal the gold medal for the 880. Blue and gold streamers cascaded from the ceiling and brilliant shields lined the walls to create a romantic mood reminiscent of the court of King Arthur. Queen Linda Younger, who was crowned by Cynthia Desroches, the queen of last year’s prom, reigned over the medieval paradise with her lady-in-waiting, Dona Morgan. The members of the court, Jane Ashley, Susan Bouley, Joanne Fitts, Judy Gifford, Ruth Henriques, and Joyce Jacobsen, assembled around the throne as Jeffrey Silva, President of the Junior Class, led the couples in the traditional Grand March. Eleven o’clock broke the spell of enchantment as an enjoyable evening came to an end. Linda Younger reigns happily over Camelot . .. It was a day of mixed feelings as the juniors happily accepted the responsibilities of leadership and the graduating seniors sadly de¬ parted from Fairhaven High. The entrance of the Juniors, each wearing a traditional yellow rose, to Sullivan’s Entrance and March of the Peers” marked the beginning of the program. They were followed by the silent, pensive seniors, who marched to Baptiste’s Entre de Procession.” Diane Houle, the senior viola soloist, played Shubert’s Ave Maria.” The Mantle Oration, symbolic of the handing down of leadership, was delivered by Barbara Bouchard, President of the Class of 1967, and accepted by Jeffrey Silva, President of the Class of 1968. Frederick Bradley performed Mozart’s Piano Sonata No. 7” as the junior solo. Mr. Charles C. Entwistle, headmaster, presented the scholastic awards to those students who displayed outstanding academic achievement during the past year. The Juniors commended were: Lynn Birtwistle, James Fortin, Susan Lockwood, Joan Medeiros, Barbara Neve, and Janet Ring. Steven Isherwood re¬ ceived the Harvard Book Club Award and Patricia Wojcik, the College Book Club Award, for their outstanding leadership and citizenship. The Senior Chorus under the direction of Mrs. Dorothy DiDominico sang I May Never Pass This Way Again” by Wizell and Melsher and Russell and Night’s The Halls of Ivy” to end the program. The seniors exited solemnly to Mendelssohn’s Cornelius Festival March” and the juniors to Sullivan s Entrance and March of the Peers” to mark the close of a tradition long to be remembered by the Class of 1968.
