Our Foreign Language Department offers instruction in the modern tongues of French and Spanish, and in the ancient language, Latin. DONALD ]. B. DUFOUR B.A., M.Ed. Mr. Dufour is the head of the Foreign Lan¬ guages Department. A graduate of Assumption College and Bridgewater State College, he teaches French. His varied interests include tennis, camp¬ ing, gardening, and reading French novels. STEVEN BARRITEAU B.A. Mr. Barriteau, who teaches Spanish and French, graduated from Stonehill College and attended Bridgewater State College. In his spare time, he enjoys reading and fishing. EDITH G. DIAS A.B. Mrs. Dias, who teaches Latin and French, graduated from Pembroke College. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, the theatre, and music. Mrs. Dias also takes great pleasure in traveling. Many of her summers have been spent touring European countries. MERCEDES PITTA B.M. M.M. Miss Pitta attended Wellesley, Yale, Radcliffe, and Boston Universities. She teaches English and French. Her interests include walking and gardening. 14

Mathematics anh Science Mathematics and science courses at Fairhaven High take us still further through the abstract and the practical. Courses in modern math offer an opportunity to come to grips with theoretical concepts which are still being tested and debated. The general math courses give training in the basic and necessary uses of figures and tools which all of us shall need in later life. Slide rules and log tables guide us in our search. JOHN G. MALCOLM B.S. Mr. Malcolm is the head of our Mathematics De¬ partment. He graduated from New Bedford Institute of Technology. In his spare time, Mr. Malcolm en¬ joys boating and fishing, and is an avid do-it-your¬ selfer.” CHARLES CIPOLLINI B.S. Mr. Cipollini, a teacher of mathemat¬ ics, has been with us for two years. A graduate of Bradford Durfee College of Technology, he enjoys cooking, sports, and golf in his spare time. IONA J. KUNZ B.S. A graduate of Simmons College, Mrs. Kunz teaches mathematics.. Among her varied interests are litera¬ ture, adolescents, gardening, sailing, poetry, art, knit¬ ting, and cooking. 16
