Fairhaven students are given an introduction to the great classics and a solid background in grammar and creative writing. MABEL H. KNIPE A.B., M.A. Mrs. Knipe is the head of the English Depart¬ ment. She is a graduate of Tufts University and Boston University. Pier interests are reading, sewing, gardening, creative writing, music, and theatre. MARGARET C. HOWLAND A.B. Mrs. Howland teaches English to Junior and Sen¬ ior students. An alumna of Wheaton College, she enjoys reading, cooking, and talking with teenagers. MARGUERITE BRASOR Ph.B. Mrs. Brasor teaches English. A graduate of the University of Vermont, she enjoys painting, and reading about the theatre. 10

DORIS BRUCE B.A., M.A. Mrs. Bruce is our college course Guidance Coun¬ sellor, whose invaluable assistance has guided so many Fairhaven High School students to successful and productive college careers. She attended Bridge- water State College and Boston University. Her favor¬ ite pastimes include reading, cooking, and outdoor activities. FERNANDO SILVA B.S. Mr. Silva is our business and general course Guid¬ ance Counselor. His knowledge and assistance have helped to place Fairhaven High School seniors in their chosen careers. He graduated from New Bedford Institute of Technology. In his spare time he enjoys hunting, fishing, and carpentry. 9

EDITH M. MOORE A.B. Mrs. Moore is a teacher of English. A graduate of Wheaton College, she enjoys reading and gardening. She is also inter¬ ested in animals. Mrs. Moore is a former chairman of the Fairhaven School Commit¬ tee. MERCEDES PITTA B.M. M.M. Miss Pitta attended Wellesley, Yale Uni¬ versity, Radcliffe, and Boston University, She teaches English and French. Her inter¬ ests include walking and gardening. EVELYN SHAPIRO B.S. in Ed. Mrs. Shapiro, a graduate of Bridgewater State College, teaches English. An accom¬ plished violinist, she enjoys the theatre, op¬ era, and concerts. SUSAN TRAFTON B.A. Miss Trafton, who teaches English and Public Speaking, graduated from Gordon College. In her spare time, she enjoys play¬ ing both the guitar, and tennis. MARY LOUISE BOYCE B.S. Mrs. Boyce, our librarian, graduated from Fitchburg State College. She has also taken courses at Colby College. Her interests in¬ clude sports, and reading. She also enjoys collecting antiques and repairing furniture. MARGARET A. MANGHAN B.S., M.S. Miss Manghan, the reading supervisor at Fairhaven High School, attended Boston College, and Bridgewater State College. Her interests include art, languages, and people.
