Social studies are a link with the past and the present. World history gives us the background we need to fully comprehend and appreciate all that is taking place around us. American history fosters our pride as citizens and our understanding of the problems we face as a nation. Non-European civi¬ lization, a unique course, offers an opportunity to learn of the rapidly expanding countries of Latin America, Asia, and Africa. EDWARD F. TRAINOR A.B., M.A. Mr. Trainor, head of our Social Studies Depart¬ ment, teaches non-European civilization. He at¬ tended Boston University and Bridgewater State College and cites reading, bowling, and swim¬ ming as his extra-curricular interests. ALEXANDER M. CLEMENT B.S., M.Ed. Mr. Clement, a teacher of United States his¬ tory, attended Williams College, North Adams State College, and Hyannis State College. He enjoys sports, crossword puzzles, and visiting his¬ torical places. CHARLES F. FOLEY B.S. in Ed. Mr. Foley, an alumnus of Bridgewater State College, teachers United States history and economics. He enjoys music and sports, and is interested in foreign affairs. WILLIAM OLIVEIRA B.S. in Ed. Mr. Oliveira graduated from Bridgewater State College. A teacher of geography, government, and history from 1700, Mr. Oliveira enjoys bowling and photography.

Business The business courses at Fairhaven High School are a training ground from which our students launch varied professional careers. Basic secretarial training is given, along with courses in business law, accounting, and bookkeeping. Students learn marketable skills with ever-increasing value. Some college-bound Fairhavenites make use of our business facilities to learn the invaluable skill of typewriting. «»» 24 MARIE R. NOYER B.S. in Ed. Mrs. Noyer is head of the Business Department and teaches office practice. She graduated from Salem State College. Mrs. Noyer’s main in¬ terests include politics, the theatre, furniture refinishing, gardening, and knitting. STELLA S. BOROWIEC B.S. in B.A. Mrs. Borowiec, who attended Southeastern Massachusetts Institute of Technology, is new to our faculty this year. She teaches typing and bookkeeping. Among her interests are sports and working for children’s organizations. MANUEL FONTES B.S. B.A., M.Ed. Mr. Fontes is a graduate of Boston College and Bridgewater State College. He teaches business law and bookkeeping, and his interests are fishing and model railroading. One of his heaviest tasks is advising the HUTTLESTON- IAN staff!
