V.1. The sciences at Fairhaven are a link with the future. Biology helps us to understand the physical environment in which we live. Physics and chemistry teach the universal truths of matter and energy. RAYMOND G. BOYCE B.S., M.Ed. Mr. Boyce, head of the Science Department and a teacher of chemistry, attended Fitchburg State College, Bridgewater State College, and Boston College. One of his greatest interests is collecting rare rock specimens. JOSEPH DRAPEAU B.S. Mr. Drapeau, a teacher of physics, chemistry, and mathematics, is new to our faculty this year. A graduate of Bradford Durfee College of Technology, he counts skindiving and chess among his interests. MELVIN ENTIN B.S. Mr. Entin, a teacher of biology is an alum¬ nus of the University of Rhode Island. He is also Fairhaven’s Director of Athletics and Phy¬ sical Education. Among his interests are wood¬ working, gardening, and fishing. VIRGINIA KOWAL B.S. Miss Kowal, who graduated from the Uni¬ versity of Massachusetts, teaches biology and United States history. She cites her interests as gardening, raising animals, and painting. 19

Mathematics anh ' tiente Mathematics and science courses at Fairhaven High take us still further through the abstract and the practical. Courses in modern math offer an opportunity to come to grips with theoretical concepts which are still being tested and debated. The general math courses give training in the basic and necessary uses of figures and tools which all of us shall need in later life. Slide rules and log tables guide us in our search. JOHN G. MALCOLM B.S. Mr. Malcolm is the head of our Mathematics Department. He graduated from New Bedford Institute of Technology. In his spare time, Mr. Malcolm enjoys boating and fishing, and is an avid do-it-yourselfer.” CHARLES CIPOLLINI B.S. Mr. Cipollini, a teacher of mathematics, is- new to our faculty this year. A graduate of Bradford Durfee College of Technology, he enjoys cooking, sports, and golf in his spare time. IONA J. KUNZ B.S. A graduate of Simmons College, Mrs. Kunz teaches mathematics. Among her varied interests are literature, adolescents, gardening, sailing, poe¬ try, art, knitting, and cooking. 18
