English the gateway to Knowledge and Communication Our fine English Department prepares us to take the next big step in our lives, be it on to higher education or out into the world to find a job, for English is the means through which we learn and communicate with others. Fairhaven students are given an introduction to the great classics and a solid background in grammar and creative writing. MABEL H. KNIPE A.B, M.A. Mrs. Knipe is the head of the English Depart¬ ment. She is a graduate of Tufts University and Boston University. Her interests are read¬ ing, sewing, gardening, creative writing, music, and theatre. MARGUERITE BRASOR Ph.B. Mrs. Brasor teaches English. A graduate of the University of Vermont, she enjoys paint¬ ing, and reading about the theatre. PRISCILLA P. HILLER Mrs. Hiller, who attended Nasson College, teaches English and speech. Her interests include records, good books, walking, swimming, and sailing. Mrs. Hiller directed this year’s Senior play. 12

stratm Mrs. Bruce, our college course Guidance Counselor, has given time and patience to help the college-bound students of F.H.S. We will always remember the aid and advice she has given us. Mrs. Bruce has a B.A. from Bridgewater State College and a Masters degree from Boston University. Her favorite pastimes include read¬ ing, cooking, and outdoor activities. Mr. Albritton, our general and business course guidance counselor, has helped many of our students choose their vocations. Mr. Al¬ britton, a former resident of Junction City, Ar¬ kansas, is a graduate of Southern State College. In his spare time, Mr. Albritton enjoys pho¬ tography and sports.

MARGARET C. HOWLAND A.B. Mrs. Howland teaches English to Junior and Senior students. An alumna of Wheaton College, she enjoys reading, cooking, and talking with teenagers. EDITH M. MOORE A.B. Mrs. Moore is a teacher of English. A gradu¬ ate of Wheaton College, she enjoys reading and gardening. She is also interested in ani¬ mals. Mrs. Moore is a former chairman of the Fairhaven School Committee. EVELYN SHAPIRO B.S. in Ed. Mrs. Shapiro, a graduate of Bridgewater State College, teaches English. An accomplished violinist, she enjoys the theatre, opera, and con¬ certs. MARY LOUISE BOYCE B.S. Mrs. Boyce, our new librarian, graduated from Fitchburg State College. She has also taken courses at Colby College. Her interests in¬ clude sports and reading. She also enjoys col¬ lecting antiques and repairing furniture. MARGARET A. MANGHAN B.S., M.S. Miss Manghan, the reading supervisor at Fair- haven High School, attended Boston College, and Bridgewater State College. Her interests include art, languages, and people. 13
