‘ It was here at Hyannis that he loved to sail, swim, and ramble with Jackie, Caroline, and John-John.” The Class of 1964 humbly and respect¬ fully dedicates this HUTTLESTONIAN to the late John Fitzgerald Kennedy, who lost his life in the service of his country. With re¬ lentless efforts he strove to fortify freedom and to attain world peace; with strength and understanding he laid the foundation for a new era. The total impact of President Kennedy’s personality on the nation was great. He was the epitome of what America stands for— style, vigor, curiosity, intellectual pursuits, and strength; qualities which are necessary to keep a nation from becoming decadent. Let President Kennedy be forever re¬ membered as one who loved the forgotten, the downtrodden, the aged, and the outcast. His life was dedicated to helping them strive for equality, regardless of race, creed, or color. Now we as young adults must carry out the fine goals he set for himself and the nation. Before my term has ended, we shall have tested anew whether a nation organized and governed such as ours can endure. The outcome is by no means certain. The answers are by no means clear.” 4

“Profile in Courage” “If each of us could have the conviction and courage to take upon ourselves a fraction of the burdens that he was willing to bear while alive, perhaps—in time to come—the disgrace of his murder might seem less overpowering and the purpose of his life realized.” —ELLEN JO PRESS 5
