AUNTI EM, AUNTI EM!!!!! HURRICANE GLORIA stormed into Fairfield but its impact was a mere bag of shells. The storm was powerful enough to knock out elec- tricity on campus and cause the evacuation of nearly all beach residents. Cancelled classes triggered all-day partying and many hurri- keg impromptus. Beach dwellers sandbagged their shacks and left for higher ground, and free food was available at Seilers. Kegs under the moon, monopoly by candlelight and dancing in the dark were the newly adopted emergency ac- tivities. Lol NAur CLCSES Irs nooks HSEAGRAPE CAFE A Fairfield institution known as the Nautilus Cafe closed its doors to all student patrons and tragically altered the social pattern of those people who were part of the Naut's clientele. Thursday Night entertainment was relo- cated to the Stag-her and the Horseshoe and students had to settle for second best. Daily Naut visitors created F.U.B.A. to ease the shock of no Naut. This association planned daily beach parties for its members and the acrynym means Fairfield University Beach Association, or simply a Naut substitute. The building that once housed the Naut reopened in late May as the Sea- grape, but first student reaction was a bit sour to the higher prices and disinfected atmosphere.

FERRARO AT FAIRFIELD Geraldine Ferraro, 1984 Vice-Presiden- tial nominee for the Democratic ticket lead by Walter Mondale, spoke out against intolerance of women at Fairfield University in an Oak Room lecture. A three time Representative of the House from Queens, Ms. Ferraro became the first female to ever run on the Presiden- tial ticket. She pointed out to the Oak Room crowd that her running was aimed at promoting women's rights and their equality with men. During her lecture, she criticized the Reagan administration for its stand on Women's rights and im- plored all listeners to carry on the pro- 11:5 1 ff L 6 gress of the feminist movement to further combat intol- 1 erance of women in the United States. Fairfield University students elected Michael Miller to succeed Jim English as the new student body president. English held that post as a senior for the entire academic year and enjoyed what onlookers term a successful presidency. President Miller hopes to improve upon the programming of events by F.U.S.A.
