O, PRES FAIRFIELD IVFRSITY FAIRFIELD, CONNECTICUT 06430 I f203I 255-5411 May 27, 1983 Dear Graduates: The Class of 1983 will always be special to me. It was in September of 1979 that I, as the new President of Fairfield, had the pleasure of welcoming you to the University. For me, and I hope for you, the past four years have been very happy ones. Together, you and I have been a vital part of an expanding university. We have witnessed its physical growth -- the new Faculty Office Building, a renovated Bellarmine, the recently constructed townhouse complex. There have also been other notable changes on campus -- new faculty members and administrators, new courses and programs, and even-new names for the gymnasium and thiormitories. Newness is the mostwsible aspect of this period of growth. Yet, amidst these changes there are values and tradi- tions that remain constant -- the Jesuit education that has enriched your academic and personal lives, the commitment to quality, and the spirit of enthusiasm that has been part of Fairfield since its beginning and that has characterized your class in a special way. These, too, are essential components of Fairfield's prosperity. As graduates you now take your place among the ranks of our newest alumni. May the values and traditions that are constant to Fairfield remain an integral part of your lives and may the new challenges, new risks, and new relationships that await you enable you to prosper. I hope that in the years ahead, when you return to the campus, you will find much that is familiar in the best of the Fairfield tradition. I hope, too, that you will find much that is new as a symbol of Fairfield's continued growth In 1979, we began together. I trust that we will continue together to work for the prosperity of Fairfield University. To all of you my heartfelt congratulations on your accomplishments during the past four years. May you find success and fulfillment in your new endeavors. Sincerely, Aloysiifls P. Kelley, S.d.E i President
