I am now happy to convey to you, as Graduates of the Class of 1982, my heartiest congratulations, not only on your successful achievements of the past four years, but also on becoming Fairfield's newest alumni. As recent graduates, you are, I suspect, still preoccupied with the uncertain ties that lie ahead -- the challenges of graduate school, the insecurities of your first job, the risks of new relationships. And yet, as new alumni, you are in a position to appreciate all that has been given you these past four years . The quality of your lives has been greatly enriched because of your Iesuit education at Fairfield University. Not only should you face the chal- lenges of today's world unhesitatinglyp you must also give fully and generously of what you have received by reaching out to others with care and concern. I trust that Fairfield University will always be a part of your reaching out.'
