Prologue M We, the Talon Staff of 7977- 7972 wish to offer you in these first fifteen pages, a fantasy of the most devilish content, a nightmare of diffused frustrations and futility that occurs within the harbori'ng walls of school. lf already you feel you would not wish to travel these first fifteen pages, we suggest that you: U skip to page 76 and start this book on that page. 2j start from page 304 and work up to page 7, ending in tearful depression. 32 start in the middle and choose which half to look at first, via the eenie-meenie-minnie- moe method. 4j obtain a large box with plain sides. Acquire possession of a few crayons or paint and brust and design your own personal Talon cover. Grasp the book in your left hand and proceed to cut out the pages making sure to trim neatly. Put all the pages in the box and toss well for 5 min. and proceed to read your book at a random selection ofpages. We feel that this story along withf the remainder of the book creates a complete time capsule of 7977e 7972 and we hope, in dedidation to the Seniors, to go one step further and attempt a slight return scanning the past four years. 7 l t is also our wish through coihtrasting illus- tration between our nightmare and the other 292 pages to show how truly great those happy memories are. No matter which approach you take .... Enjoy this book! THE TALON STAFF ln the beginning, lVlan created children. And they were without mind. And ignorance blushed upon the face of the child- ren. But lVlan, in his glory, saw the Spirit of Knowledge move within the minds of the young, and saw that this was good. And Man said Let there be schools, so my children may journey in the garden of thought. And let there be teachers to lead them on paths of knowledge. And let there be admini- strators to hold them true upon these paths. And there were schools. And there were teachers. And there were administrators. And Man saw that they were good. But the children looked upon the school and saw that it was cold. And the children looked upon the teachers, and felt that they were alien. And the children looked upon the administrators and knew they were to be feared. And, lo, as years came to pass, the children grew as borders within the walls of education. Their years were spent nursing in the womb of their creation. And knowledge was conceived and Man saw that this was good. But the children bore the pains of labor, and in their silence burned a sorrow that passes in secret knowing through out their numbers. But man could not see this, and the children knew this was bad. So they created a child in their image. And they gave to this child all the desires and dreams that their minds could not express. This child was christened Stacherine-Son of Man. And he dwelt within children 's midnight visions, and he was nailed to the cross of their sorrow. But one day the children couldn't stop their nightmare. One day the dream they had created faded into reality.
