V I I GE The board of directors of the Independent School District of Fairheld, Iowa, is composed of Eve persons elected for terms of three years each. Sanford Zeigler, president of the board, is the senior member in point of service. He is now completing his 18th year as a member of the board, during which time he has seen nine of his own children graduate from the Fairfield High School. Next in order of service is W. S. Shaw, who has completed one term of three yearsg Ed. H. Davis, who has almost served 'three yearsg Frank McClain, who is also serving his third year on the board, and W. B. Parrett, now finishing his l'irst year. These men have given freely of their time and efforts in the interests of the Fairfield Schools. Uppermost in their minds, at all times, is the best interests of the pupils and it is their ambition to keep the local schools in the same high plane to which they have been elevated in the past. The work of these men is seldom noticed by the public generally, but great credit is due them for the unsellish manner in which they sacrifice their own interests to the public good. Owing to the election which was held in March, the personnel of the school board was changed. Mrs. L. W. Van Nostrand and Mrs. Fred L. Kagan xx A X1 X, illllr. GI. H. Garrett Mr. C. F. Garrett came to Fairfield eight years ago, accepting the position of superintendent of the public schools. He was well grounded in his work, having been superintendent of the schools at Charter Oak, Iowa, for eight years, twelve years at Sac City, Iowag two years at Jonesboro, Arkansas, and for four years was president of the Western Normal College, and superintendent of the schools at Shenandoah, Iowa. 43.7 He is progressive in his ideas and active in educational circles, shown by his interest in the various leagues and organizations. He was vice president of the National Educational Association in 1923-24. He is a member of the State Board of Educational Examiners, and a member of the National Committee on Character Education. JG! He is the author of Farm Arithmetic and Field Investiga- tions, Theory of Accounts, Home Geography and Methods and Devices.
