Oh shoot the luck anyway! Here I am all alone again tonight. Juliet has gone off to some old lecture on commercial art, so I can't go to her house, but then I guess I shouldn't growl cause I sure am proud of the fame she has acquired as a commercial artist. And there's little sister, Libby. She is some kid, too. Let me think. What is her latest poem? Mm-m-Oh yes- Ode to a Black Crow . A keen piece of work. Guess I'll see how the new radio which that salesman Oddie Howell induced me to purchase, is working tonight. He said his wife, Francis, wouldn't have any other kind in her house. Hm? Jack Gobble invented this new type. Wonder if he's as good at that sort of thing as he used to be? Then he sold his patent to Addis Turpin who has established a radio factory in partnership with John Rittenhouse. Listen! There I've got something. Station WAC. Iowa City. Mr. Fred Webber, candidate for senatorship of Iowa, will speak on The Future of American Ideals . Well, well if that isn't our old class mate, Deacon. Hope you get elected, old dear, but really I am in no mood to listen to a lecture on that subject tonight. Guess I'll try something else. Holy Smoke, what a noise! There-it's O.K. now. Station AEX-Chicago. The first number on our musical program tonight will be a solo by Miss Esther Miller. She will be accompanied by Miss Dorothy Eland, one of the promising young pianists of the musical world. Say, that was real. I'll just listen in on this station a while longer. The next number will be a violin solo by Miss Marcelle Alexander, accompanied by Miss Helen Cain. Well, I've had enough classical music for this evening. I'll try something else. Guess Mr. Howell was right. This is some radio. Hark-somebody talking- To be or not to be. That is the question. Well, I'll be switched. That's Dick Hammon's voice sure as faith. Hum- oh yes, I do remember reading the other day that he has become famous for his interpretation of Hamlet. And also Eileen Ulrich is taking the role of Ophelia. Some combination, I'll claim. I can't endure listening to that all evening, so here's to your success-Abie and Dick. So long. Oh boy! some jazz! Boom-Re Ra Ru Bang! For the benefit of those who have not enjoyed the first part of our program, I will announce again the personnel of Mr. Kearn's Midnight Owls. Mr. Harold Kearns, leader and pianist Mr. Roger Downs, soloist Mr. Kenneth Leathers, banjo Mr. Arthur Baker, Drums Mr. Otto Bowling, saxophone Mr. James Eveland, cornetist A little surprise, eh? I never knew Jimmie Eveland could play a cornet, but then he was always long on talking so I suppose he l1as nuff wind to play one. The next number will be Red Hot Henry Brown , Mr. Kearn's latest hit. Oh hang the luck anyway! That was keen music and now I can't hear it at all. Say, that sounds interesting. What is it?, Station, OHW will now broadcast 'the latest news briefly'. Merle Baker Ell'ln0l1hCll1g. The new mayor of Glasgow, Arthur Graham, says his highest ambition is to rid the city of bootleggers and all other professional crooks. Watch his smoke. Harry Johnson, heavy-weight champion of U.S.A. won from the European champion last evening in a bout which was witnessed by several thousand people. His trainer, Wesley Parsons, said Johnson put up the best iight he had ever seen. illllllllllllllllllllllllllIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII The Quill, Fairfield, Iowa ,llllIlllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllIlllll

Congratulations, Helen. An interesting and also successful experiment has been made by Keith Spratt, of the Smithsonian Institute. He has compounded a chewing gum which will keep students awake during school hours. it Miss Camille Montgomery was chosen Miss America in a nation-wideicontest. We understand Miss Montgomery has a contract with the Mantam Movie Corp. Society of New York was shocked to learn that Theo Martin, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Payne Martin has applied for a divorce from her fourth husband. Her charge is cruel and inhuman treatment. f Well, well, who'd a thunk it? Theo simply can't agree with men. Too bad, old dear. Say by the way, who else in our class is married. Hm-m. Let's see- Oh yes, Margaret Klingaman is a farmer's wife now-and then-then-oh sure- Louva Young is married too. Funny where all my classmates have scattered to. Now there's Elizabeth Crawford. I read just the other day that she is teaching the latest dancing steps at Tuskogee Institute. I'll bet she's a good one, too. Wonder what ever become of Carl Samuel Wise? Say, by George, I remember hearing Kenneth Hix tell that when he and Ralph Doughty went on their last research ex- pedition to the South Sea Isles for data concerning bugology, they found Carl out under a cocoanut tree teaching Latin to a group of native girls. Some occupation, eh? Mentioning Latin, what else did I hear about Senior Class of '26? Oh yes-Walter Kilpatrick and Iliff Leu have just published a complete up-to-date set of Latin ponies for the benefit of those students who find Latin hard to read. Well, well- Guess I'll tune in on something else. And then the big brown bear laughed- Say, that voice sounds familiar-Hm-m. Maryalyce Smith as sure as I am a foot high-telling bedtime stories-Ha! ha! Can't be bothered listening to that childish stuff. Music-good! You are now listening to the college band led by Frank La Rue, a former student of F.H.S. The game will commence in a few minutes. The two teams are getting final instructions. Captain Lee of the Iowa team seems anxious. He is now talking to Freddie Robinson, all star guard. The other players for Iowa are Dale Davison, centerg Paul Stoner, guard, and Ronald Blough, forward. The referee is Doyle Tracy and the umpire, Carl Heckenberg. Time for game. They're off! Freddie has ball--now Lee-basket-score 2-0 in favor of Iowa. Ben Taylor, well- known reporter of the Lockridge Times is taking notes on the game. Whiz bang! another basket for Iowa. Time out-one fellow hurt-Ora Hays, water carrier for Iowa team runs across floor with bucket but whoop-slips and spills water. Referee calling for janitor of building to come quickly-Paul Montgomery answers summons and slowly mops up water, while the famed Doctor, Launcelot Eller, bandages up the sprained ankle. They carry fellow off the Hoor and game is continued. The pep committee, led by Irene White, is now yelling. Other members of this noted organization are Kathryn Brady, Mary Evans, Wilma Harrell and Alice Perry, Louise Culbertson-Half-Some fellow making announcement. I'll let you hear it- Immediately following this game there will be a dance at Elk's Hall-Every one welcome. Gertrude Taylor and Florence Zeigler, famous dancers from Zeigfield Follies, will give demonstration of latest classical dances. Oh shoot! Guess I'll ring off that stuff for a time. Wonder what other station I can get. Harkl I Madame Leone will now give a brief sketch of the season's most popular dresses, after which my assistant, Madamoiselle Dorothy Nelson will talk on The Gentle Art of Makeup . I will begin my lecture by describing a dress worn by Countess La Maletroit, formerly Miss Violet Butcher of Chicago- Well, well, if that wasn't Leona Shaw-or rather Madame Leone. I heard Juliet say that she is a famous modiste in Paris. Hot-Dog- and .o think I got Paris. Say, I'rr1 going to try for some more foreign stations. Some more music-Oh yes that is Marie Scott and Paul Haney singing. I read that they are now singing in some vaudeville-No, I mean opera-Metropolitan Opera Company-I believe or some such name. Well ta! ta old things. I prefer jazz any old day. Station XYZ. Mr. Floyd Harrison will now lecture on 'Scientific Farming'. He and his partner, John Blough are probably the best known- Sorry'but I am not interested in that subject so here's hoping for better results. llIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIlllllllll TheQui11,Fair1ie1d,I0wa IllIIllllllIlllIlllllllllllllllllllllllIIIIll
