A faculty committee along with representatives of the Exchange Club select a student to represent the school each month. Students are chosen on the basis of their participation in activities sponsored by the school, loyalty, and their academic performance the past three years. A plaque is awarded to the deserving student at a monthly Exchange Club luncheon. Clyde Tucker Activities 97 % Hspfl BETA CLUB TAPPINGS The Beta Club is our school's honor society consisting of members with a 3.5 to a 4.0 average accumulated over the past three to four years. Courses from which the averages are taken are English, math, history, and science, and foreign languages. The members of this club are to uphold high ideals and morals and are to be representive of the best qualities in a person. The Beta Club members would like to stress to the underclassmen the idea of trying to achieve a high grade point average. 98 Crucible Activities 99 GLORIA RASPBERRY BOYS’ STATE AND GIRLS’ STATE 1981-82 BARRY STAMPS Each year students from cities all over Alabama participate in Boys' and Girls' State, an exercise in government. The Boys' State is held in Montgomery while the Girls' State is held at Huntingdon College. Gloria Raspberry represented Fairfield at Girls' State. Barry Stamps attended the Boys' State Convention held in Montgomery during the month of June. Touring the State Capital, meeting with our State Legislature, and being introduced to Governor Fob James were among the highlights of the week. Athletics 123 VARSITY BASEBALL TEAM The 1981 Varsity Baseball Team played many of their scheduled games at the Fairfield City Park. They traveled to McAdory, Midfield, Ensley, Pleasant Grove, and other areas for the remainder of their games. While a young team, under the direction of head coach, Barry Jones, this team compiled an impressive records of wins. The 1982 season begins with new coach, Wayne Byram, looking forward to another winning year to maintain the baseball team's traditional record of outstanding sportsmanship and winning records. 124 Crucible Coach Wayne Byram Coach Tim Orton VARSITY BASKETBALL TEAM The 1981-82 Basketball Team continued their winning tradition in keeping with past Fairfield Basketball Teams. The student body followed them closely as they progressed through the season winning area games which led to participation in various tournaments and on to state honors. The B’Team has enjoyed a winning season and should take their spotlight in coming seasons. 130 Crucible Athletics 131 FHS VARSITY CHEERLEADERS The 1981-82 Cheerleading Squad under the direction of new sponsor, Debra Cargile, has done an outstanding job throughout the season. They represented the student body at the football, basketball and baseball games. This group of girls practiced many hours to accomplish the precision work for which they are noted. Their enthusiasm and school spirit set the pace for the student body throughout the year. This year they won the Area 9 championship at Midfield. Cassandra Sanders was voted most valuable player, while Yvonne Handley. Linda Wilkerson and Angela Toney were voted on the All Tournament Team.
