Tigers displayed. With the odds constantly against them, the boys never quit trying. .Always outnumbered, at times as much as 3 to 1, they gave us, the spectators, a right to be proud of their determination. Their pride in their school showed through when it counted the most. This is the pride these boys have in F.H.S. and the students will never forget their loyalty. 107 THE 1972-73 FAIRFIELD TIGERS The 1972-73 Tigers were a young team this year. Composed mostly of juniors and sophomores, there were only two seniors on the squad. The lack of experience and lack of depth accounts for this year’s record. The record does not do true justice to this year's team however. Under the guidance of some of the best coaches around, Williamson, McFarland, McGhee, Galloway, Williford, Vakakas, and Kinley, the boys provided us with many exciting moments on the field. The students and faculty at Fairfield arc grateful to these boys for representing Fairfield with the spirit, pride, and sportsmanship they displayed at all times. BOTTOM ROW: R. Conway, T. Wilson, J. Time ran out with the final score 18-0, West End. A fired-up Tiger squad bounced back and rolled over a stunned McAdory team. Fairfield made two scoring drives of 80 yards and 63 yards. The final score 14-6, Fairfield. Ill FAIRFIELD RETAINS PRIDE Fairfield’s third game was with the Erwin Eagles. This was one of the most exciting games of the season although it was a defeat. Erwin squeezed in an early touchdown during the first quarter. From there on it was a hard-fought, defensive game, but the score remained 7-0, Erwin. Standouts for Fairfield were, John Garling-ton, Chris Cox, Clyde Adams, and Greg Alexander. The Tigers faced 3A state finalists John CarToll next. Fairfield fought bravely, but the Cavaliers, with the advantage of playing on their home field, proved to be too much as John Carroll won 20-0. 112 FAIRFIELD DESTROYS LIONS The Fairfield Tigers traveled to Prattville next to upset the homecoming plans of autauga County in front of over 4,000 fans. Fairfield scored early in the first quarter, but Autauga came back to tie the score. Just before the half, Chris Cox intercepted a pass and took it in to make the score 13-7 at the half. In the second half, Garlington, from five yards out, capped 3 65-yard scoring drive by taking it over. Fairfield scored several more times before the evening was over and the final score was 29-13, Fairfield. II3 HOMECOMING SPIRIT PREVAILS Next Fairfield met awesome Jess Lanier. The Tigers made the most dazzling display of courage in this game by facing the entire Lanier squad with just 16 varsity players and 8 B-tcamcrs. Fairfield was gallant and never stopped trying, but was defeated 42-0. Homecoming spirit and excitement was liigh all week and reached its climax Friday night when the Tigers met Hueytown. With less than 20 players, the Tigers held on well but the Gophers gradually pulled away. John Garling-ton made both of Fairfield's touchdowns as Hueytown won 40-12, but somehow the defeat just didn't hurt the spirit and pride of the students and players. 114 GALLANT TIGERS END SEASON Molt came to Clements Field the week after Homecoming. The twice beaten Ironmen scored in each quarter against the brave Tigers. Jhe unbeaten Pleasant Grove Spartans were Fairfield's next opponents. The Tigers faced the Spartans with less than twenty men on the squad. The final scores were 49-0. Holt and 4o-6. Pleasant Grove.
