FOOTBALL REVIEW The football spirit rose to a high pitch this year as fifty-two boys turned outfor the first day of practice headed by three new coaches--Roy Gatewood, George Sawyer, and Dwight Alvis. Even though our opponents, on the whole, had more weight and height than we did, we outscored them IO7-106. We had two boys who were outstanding this year--Van Buskirk, who made all-state and all-conference quarterback, and Samford, who received honorable mention on the all-state team. We ended the season with a 4-4 record, but, with a few breaks, our coaches thought we could have had a 7-I record. Everyone thought we had a better team this year than last, and the school was very proud of it. 51

The outstanding player of the year was George Butler, who led the conference with the great- est number of points. Despite the inferiorheight of the Mules, they got their share of the rebounds and held a tight defense during most of the season. They should also be commended for their swell attitude and spirit which ran high even when the odds seemed to be against them. The managers were Bob Dosier and Ed Ackman. The outstanding players of the season were Butler, scoring 333 points, Buskirk, scoring 126, Mitchell scoring 41, Nickolson, scoring 46, Smith scoring 25- Jackson scorin 24- and Hod e scor- ing 191. The school spirit at first was very low, but as the season came on, it rose to ahigh level. Every- body in the student body agrees that the team re- presented the school well.
