This year Mr. Wetherington formed the Band Mothers' Club to try to foster better relations be- tween the student, the school, and the parents. During the year the band played for all of the football games and put on an extra show at some of them by doing some forma- tions on the field, they also led the home- coming parade, Music was furnished by the band for only the last two basketball games because of the lack of space provided for it. lst Row: James Langdon, Mr. Wetherington, Marty Christy, Colleen Borah, Bill Simpson, J. Another trip was made to Albion to combine with the Albion band to furnish a little extra entertainment for the football game held in that city. The main event of the year was the music contest held at Bridgeport, which the band attended as a group and also entered a few soloists. ?H 'Q CHOIR A new policy was inaugurated in the choir this year. Miss Jessop, who has been director of the choir for many years, gave up her post to Mr. Wetherington, who now has charge of all the musical activities of the school, The choir consisted of forty-one voices with Gloria Lawrence and Dorothy lvers, accompanists. For the first time in the his- tory of the school the choir purchased robes in which to give their performances. In order to pay for the robes, which were pur- chased at a cost of 3675, the members un- dertook two selling campaigns, They sold Christmas cards, which netted them SISO profit, and they also sold subscriptions to lst Row, Top: Dick McCoy, Charles Steiner, David Haught, Allen Spaulding, Jack Walton, John Hancock, Gordon Jenkins, French Tickner, David McKenny, Ted Mathews, Robert Bone, James Cash, Dean Martin, Billy Bob Hayward Zncl Row: Buddic Funkhous- cr, Betty Brown, Anna Mae Cline, iff Joyce Owen, Dorothy Ivers, Charlene W e b b e r, Virginia Bumpass, Dorothy Fry, Barbara Kelley, Jean Hutchison, Anita Karr, Myrta Dale, Mr. Wetherington Marshall, Shari Eleanor Cable, 3rd Row: Doris Pteffer, Betty Borah, Wil- Dorothy Koontz, Mariorie Burton, ma Wallace, Gloria Lawrence, Helen Martin the Wayne County RECORD. They sang for the Chamber of Commerce of Fairfield and at the high school Christmas program. Mr. Wethering- ton has done a grand job of teaching both popular and classical songs to the girls. lt's enlightening to hear these beautiful voices of the Glee Club sounding throughout the bottom floor. Glee Club, however, does not offer a full credit toward graduation, but the classes do not meet every day. lt offers a wonderful opportunity to get acquainted with good singing and to be able to enioy it. The Boys' Glee Club, like that of the girls, has made various appearances at school and throughout the community. These boys do wonderful singing. They aren't lazy either: they sold Christmas cards and the Wayne County RECORD subscrip- tions in order to help pay for their new choir robes. The director, Mr. Wethering- ton, has taught our future Sinatras and Crosbys many songs. We should hear more from the high school Glee Clubs in the future. They have entertained many busi- ness and civic organizations.
