If K wwwm, 76a Aww S145 f.7all1fMfl6gk Scdool Fwmwuww For the past l3 years, Mrs. Juanita Haun has devoted her time and experience as a teacher in Fairfax Grade School, Junior High, and High School. She has been an instructor here and elsewhere for a total of 28 years. She has 3150 served as elementary principal for 4 years. We Seniors will remember her especially as our fifth grade teacher in the old Baptist Church. In our memory will always remain certain little incidents: the gloves that fell down the furnace duct, her threat of hanging us on a nail when the new students came, and the problem of knowing whether we were considered grade school or high school. Mrs. Haun, you have always been a real friend to all of us. The efforts you have put forth in this school are greatly appreciated by everyone. In humble thanks to you for giving your life to promote our country's most valuable asset . . . youth, we dedicate to you, the 1963 Guardian. 741: fulkloq Our fine little fellow, the bulldog, graces our book and as we look at him through- out the pages, we are reminded of all the wonderful times we have had at Fairfax High School this year. But let's look just at our bulldog. Of course, we recognize him as our mascot. Idoubt if we could have an athletic contest of any sort without realizing this. We bulldogs should stop a minute and think, just why we are bulldogs, and for what do we stand? It is true we are bulldogs because this is a part of our school heri- tageg indeed, we are lucky to be given such a grand name. It is a fittingname only if we live up to it. The bulldog is courageous, going forth fearlessly to do what is right. He is loyal and obedient to his master and family. He is loving and shows friendliness to all he en- counters. He is unselfish, faithful, and trustworthy, having the intelligence and stamina to complete a task. We would do well to take our bulldog characteristics with us after graduation and practice them in our every day living, no matter how big are our goals and dreams. We too must be courageous and fight for what we think is right. We will never stand idly by and watch our freedoms taken from us because of our lack of courage or cowardice. We shall truly find happiness only when we are dedicated, loyal and obedient to God. Our way will be loving and friendly, casting no man aside. We will be unselfish, trustworthy, forgiving, and faithfulto all our acquaintances and in all of our dealings. Yes, we have a lot to live up to with a name like bulldogs. But then, we have a lot for which to live. Our goals now may be, or seem to be, as far away as the stars. But shoot high, so long as we never forget to pray to God for guidance and be humble enough to ask forgiveness for if He is with us I know our actions will show all the Bulldog traits. 7 ff rg N 'J l . f--5' 5' f I u K , if Z-' X Sponsored b FIRST NATIONAL BANK, PI'arkio, Missouri THE PAST, THE PRESENT, AND THE FUTURE OF FAIRFAX HIGH SCHOOL In the three story red brick building at the top of the hill in our town there are two green doors through which many genera- tions of people have walked. The small ones had trouble opening these doors their first year, but their last they go through them as though they weren't there. Many cnanges have occurred in the past 35 years. In 1927 the first classes were held in the main building. In 1940 anew agriculture building was finished, and in 1952 a home economics building was added to the agriculture department. In 1957 a new elementary building and a new gymnasium were finished. That year our boys basketball team christened the new gym with a 28 wins and a 1 loss record. In the future there are plans for a new music department to be constructed south of the present stage at the end of the new gymnasium. Now in 1962 we have a very modern school. We the Senior Class of 1963 are proud that we have been a part of Fairfax High School. 'S-.--4' 74m Baal: az Wwe 276m 76m Bite -Eur A .. tional classes ever graduated from Fairfax High School. These people are better trained and qualified to meet the complex demands of our society than most. We are proud of this class'S achievements. May each and every one of them enjoy success, good health, and a long life in their future endeavors. Mu Aldfmif JMJ The class of 1962, I a.m sure, can be depended on to adjust to the unusual. From the day you were sent to the Little Baptist Church for school, I have enjoyed watching your achievements in the classroom, activities i.n sports, and participation in outside duties. My wish to you is: As you climb the ladder to success, may each rung bring happiness. X To the Seniors of 1962--It gives me much pleasure to know you have finished your high school education, but I assure you the school will miss you. The activities of the school will suffer from your loss. I wish you the best of luck in your life's work, also may you enjoy prosperity. 7726?7if4aa The class of 1962 is the largest and one of the most excep- MR. We will need various types of knowledge to meet our coming problems of life. Whether you are in the business world or not, you will find great use for typing skills. The students have been learning to type and proofread accurately. Shorthand is a very helpful short cut in writing speed. It isn't always useful to the ord- inary run of life people but for the modern secre- tary it is a must. The study of our standards of life, and that of our neighboring countries is the subject of Con- temporary Issues. More of the business world is contemplated in Secretarial Practice and Bookkeeping. Some of the things studied can be used every dayg others only in the business office. Academic Glam it A SC IENC E 8 In our coming age, science will be needed The students are first introduced to the subject in General Science, which touches on many phases of this field. In Chemistry class, the mysteries of science are explored further. The elements are studied, laboratory experiments are performed and charts are memorized. It is a subject that takes much time but is quite inetresting. Among other things, the study of Geometry is one which encourages you to think. You must learn the construction of squares, perpendiculars and trian les. Geometr is useful in man fields S Y Y such as art, architecture, and engineering. Today's students, who may be tomorrow's astronauts must have sound minds and bodies. It is said that American youth are not physically fit. But they are becoming educated in Physical Education and Health classes. CHEMISTRY 6 Habla usted espanol? We are the Future Homemakers North, south, east, west. Life in each direction is different. ln Spanish class the students learn the way of life to the south of us, while in Language Arts classes they learn why we speak and write in the man ner we do in the United States and Canada. A more detail- ed study of life is made in World His- tory. This includes the study of all na- tions, their history past and present. This will undoubtedly be put to good use in their futures. The Agri- culture boys learn the art of carpen- try and also of welding. They study the types of soil and the way to test it. The two chapter mothers are Mrs. Wayne Bradfield, and Mrs. Vernon Trauernicht. 7ww gras 2 - 'via The FHA and FFA had a swingin' good time at their two Barnwarmin's this year. The first one was September 29, 1962 and the second was March 9, 1963. Pete Bragg from Maryville was caller for both gay square dances. The Barnwarmin' of March 9 was a very special occasion, because the Chapter Sweetheart and Favorite FelloW were announced. The FFA Chapter Sweetheart, Eileen McCartney, was chosen by the FFA boys and presented with a Chapter Sweetheart jacket. The FHA Favorite Fellow, John Pearce, was chosen by the FHA girls and presented with a gift. Refreshments were furnished by the FHA girls. The caller was obtained by the FFA boys.
