To have an education, the student must put forth an effort. If you put nothing into your education, nothing is K exactly what you will receive in return. Many students of many schools do not understand this. The faculty is proud of the many graduates of this school who have set high standards and ideals for themselves, who have worked hard and are now good witnesses of Fair- fax High School. We believe that we can be justly proud ofthe class of 1959. Seniors, we congratulate you. ' A1':. .w . 7.3,-A . .- I-,,,.,',-, ,.,-i ' ,., 1- . if V ' , ,. ' . ,. ., . NEXT YEAR AFTER The music is playing and people are beginning to turn around in their seats, craning their necks to see past their neighbors, to see the beginning of the procession as they start down the aisle. Each is searching with misty eyes for his little one all grown up, wearing a long solemn gown with an equally Solemn face under stiff flat caps hiding their foreheads and shading the eyes which they try so hard not to blink, lest a tear fall. I hear this music and taking my long time classmate-escort's arm, Iget ready to follow slowly down this narrow corridor for the last time a senior--with high hopes and great expectations for the future. My eyes burn and my throat is dry and stiff as I fight to hold back the tears that I know are only an eyelid away. Straining to keep my mind on my steps, I try not to remember all the years I have gone here to school and the fun I've had. I see all my former school years and schoolmates with all the little incidents that happened, come before me as I walk - much as a drowning man sees his life pass before his eyes. They come clearly, these incidents, and mist that shuts out everything at the moment does not dim the memories in these few steps that seemed so slow and long at rehearsals but now take only a second. Finally I reach the stage and sit down in the group with my friends who all seem so close and dear to me--all with one thing in common and all petty differences forgotten. The long speech is shortened by more reminiscing by my unattentive mind. Next is the roll call to walk across the stage on very uncertain legs, that threaten to give up with every step, to receive my diploma. This makes everything very ceremonious and final. I'm no longer a senior, but a graduate of Fairax High School. It's all over now, I think as I wait for the line of relatives and friends to straggle by with hand shakes and good wishes, but am I mistaken? Is it all over, or is it just a beginning? A journey of a thousand miles begins with one little step. Is this the one step--the one I must start with to make the long trip of a lifetime? If so, then it must not be faulty or weak, but must have determina- tion and strength enough to carry me on. -- Sarra NI. Dugger So we close the doors of the past in Fairax High School and reach forward to open the doors of the future. Whatever course they open upon - wherever they may lead, we shall always remember and pledge anew our deep abiding love.
