U , O H 3 S 4 Pi Q L.,....,.,J Dramatic Club We eonsitler the llraniatie t'lnb one of the crowning' aehieve- ments aevoniplisheml in 1925-26. We Certainly neetl not say that our sehool is laelcing' in the finer aetivities of school life. Vile have shown the people ol' our eonnnunity that we flo not take up all our extra tinie with athleties but flivimle ituso as to develop the intel- leetual life as well as the physieal. The elnb was started by Bliss Virginia Corse in the fall of 1921, but was discontinued. lt was re-established in 1925 and thru the efforts of Miss t'or.se and the eo-operation of the students, the re' sult was more than pleasing. The purpose of the Dramatic Club was to give to the students an opportunity to show talents which would otherwise lie dormant. The membership of the Club num- bered fifty-five. tJffieers were elected at the first meeting-Miss Loraine Walker, presidentg Miss Helen Baker, vice-president, and Miss Gertrude Johnson, Secretary. There were not more than fifteen present at this meeting' but these few boosted and at the next meet- ing practically all the members were present. The business of the t'lub was first taken care offthen the t'hairn1an took charge of the reniaining' part of the prograni. This prograni consisted of vocal duets, and a short play. The soeial hour followed-but this part of the evening' eoulcl not have been more thoroughly enjoyed than the prograni. lt was tleeitled that these ineetingis should be helcl once a nionth. Lists were made out so as to give eaeh member a chance. l'1veryone was to be on a prograin eoininittee, a refreshment com- niittee, anal to participate in a prograin at least onee. This plan was found to work very well. We helcl one open meeting whieh was a tleeiflecl sueeess. The public- showed their appreeiation and were loud in their praise. The greatest aehievenlent of the llraniatie t'lnb was the play. The best. talent of the sehool was manifested in As a XVOIIIHH Thinketh. It was proof that the efforts put forth were not all in vain. There are sineere hopes that the llraniatie t'lnb will not per- ish but that it will entertain a bright future. 'l'he necessities ol' such an activity has long been felt but no teacher eared to assume the responsibility. Mr. NValler is.sued the call for try-outs and twelve likely look ing candidates reported. A series ol' debates were held as prelim- inaries to the first tryout held in eonneetion with the Oc-toher fes- tival. 'l'he purpose of the high school division of the Forum, organized in September, 1918, by Duane VVl1itford, is to serve the people of Fairfax by equipping writers, editors, and publishers. The life of the student body is revealed to the patrons of the school by this publication. Miss Corse has served as critic for the paper and with her able assistance the paper has steadily improved. A general does not win a battle thru his own endeavorg com- inendation is due his faithful aids. In this way Vlesley Mellonald can not sustain the successful publication which he has built up without assistance. 'Phe assistants are A. E. Wliitcw, senior report- er, Albe Wvatkins, junior reporter, Faye Bogard, sophomore re- porter and lieatrice Neal, freshman 1'eporter. The editor-in-eliief, VVesley McDonald, was chosen from the school at large. Newspaper wo1'k is not new to Pat as he has seen service as reporter on the Forum. He will be lost through gradua- tio11 alld his lo.ss will be keenly felt as he has artistic and literary ability of unusual merit. A. lil. Wliite, the senior reporter, rarely finds time to do any reporting although she is a news hound with exceptionally large ears. A. E. leaves her pencil and paper at home and reports in person. A. E. is tl1e official school stenographer and can .sure play hot dog on a typewriter. Albe keeps tl1e juniors in the spot light in every issue. He is very dependable and can be counted on to do his bit. Faye keeps us informed on tl1e Mound City News, the latest picture shows and the Charlestonian dance hall dates. Bee is a very busy person, with a good ear for news and tl1e ability to organize. The class reporters are chosen by tl1e classes thelnselves, the purpose being to give every student in our school equal represen- tation. Numerous delays made this impossible and the girls were forced to play all their games on foreign courts. The squad eonsisted of raw recruits with the exception of A. E. White, Lillian Combs and Viola Cox. The praetiees were very irregular as we could use the gym only twiee a week. The team played three games but failed to break into the win column. In the first game at Tarkio, Captain White and V. Cox played exceptionally good lrasketlvall. The final sc-ore in this game was 116-l. The Rot-k Port tournament was the next venture and even if we failed to win, every one had a good time. Rus llurns sm-ored the Ollly first when he leaped twenty feet and five ini-hes for individual honors in the broad jump. Taking the season as :1 whole, Lee Wrinkle was the outstanding pers former. Lee is not a l,'a1l1lovk but he is eonsistant and nianages to place in about three events in every meet. The hurdles was his best event last year. The men who represented Fairfax on the einrler paths i11 1925 were R. Burns, L. Shelton, U. R-uddell, L. VVrinkle, B. VValker, VV. McDonald, J. Martin, H. lleardorff, and A. l'an1pbell. 'l'he outlook for the l!l2ti season is brighter than it has been for sev- eral years. He has a natur- al stride but lllll!-ll improve his start if he is to be :1. tape breaker. Wrinkle, a veteran of two seasons, is giving' his attention to the hur- dles and his sprinting erqierienee is a big help to hi111. Shelton is out again determined to win his spurs on the 1-indor paths. Walker is trying for the 440 Zlllll stands an exeellent ehanee of making the grade. Wesley MeDonal:l, one of the first to report for track praetiee will be given a chanee in the short sprints. Two freshmen have reported Zlllll if early season performances are any indication of ability, G. Wrinkle and B. Burns can be counted 011 to carry their end of the burden of another successful year. Already G. Wrinkle is leading the way for the veteran quarter milers by 50 yards and Burns is clearing the jumping standards with height and ease. Smith, also a fresh- man, shows promise in several events. Coach Waller is now working on a baseball schedule and if suitable opponents ean be found will have a. team to represent the Bulldogs. The following mon have reported for praetiee and look like promising material on which to build a team: Green, eateherg Walker and Wrinkle, pitchersg G. Wrinkle, E. Uatron, D. 'l'he banquet that Prof. NValler gave, the kindwin fact, il was an oyster supper-and for the boys it was a royal affair. When the girls arrived on the scene afterward, that feed was the main topic for discussion a11d well it might be for the boys, one by one, declared with animation that it was the best yet. The simplic- ity of the supper and entertaiimient was the source of its success. Mr. VValler could not have expressed his appreciation and deep re- gard for the boys in a better and more simple way. and we think he was truly repaid for his efforts with the kind expression of thanks he received from both the boys and girls. FOOTBALL BANQUET. Un Jan. 30, Dr. and Mrs. Owen llunter entertained the mem- bers of the 1925 football squad with a most elaborate bampiet. The banquet. was originally planned for December 5th hilt had to be postponed because no one could be found to serve the dinner. .Xt exactly 8 o'clock, twenty-four couples filed into the dining room of the Presbyterian church to be greeted by the host and hos' tess. l'lveryone was struck by the decorations and the color scheme which was tastefully carried out in green and white. 'l'hc favors were imitation foot balls for everyone and white carnations for the girls. 'l'l1e team was officially greeted by little .limmy llunler, dressed in a miniature football suit, who had secluded himself in a large steel football placed on the table. lle greeted the Bulldogs with a hearty welcome and invited them to help themselves as he ,settled down beside the host to enjoy the dinner. 'l'he dinner eon- sisted of cocktail, salads, meat and dessert courses. The food was delicious and enjoyed by all. JUNIOR-SENIOR BANQUET. Un April 8th, the Senior class was the guests of the Junior class in the High School auditorium. This was one of the smart- est soeial affairs of the year. 'l'he auditorium was attractively decorated in green and gold in honor of the guests of the evening. On entering the room each Senior was presented with an American Beauty Rose, the flower of their choice. Each Junior ushered a Senior to a place at the table. lle re- mained that person's guest for the evening. A delicious three' course dinner was served, consisting of meat, salad and dessert courses. Loraine Vllalker acted as toastmistress and asked for sev- eral toasts and songs. YV. P. Green gave a toast to the spirit. of F. Il. S. and was answered by Lee Wrinkle who assured him that such a spirit- would be upheld by the Senior class of 19215 and 1927. The reinainder of the evening was spent in games and smooth- ing down the boards in. the new gym. Society SENIOR BANQUET One of the smartest social functions of this school year was the Banquet which the Seniors gave in honor of Miss Lois Rhoades, tlet. Z2-L Miss Rhoades left to make her home in Kansas City short- ly afterwards. The dinner was served in the dining room of the llotel tlunningham. 'l'he decorations were carried out in true Hal- lowe'en style-the black and yellow color scheme making a very unique arrangement, added to this were the pretty costumes of the waitresses which were in perfect harmony With the other decora- tions. The dinner was served in three courses, which were heartily enjoyed, especially by the boys who had played football that after- noon taud by Coach VVallerl. The faculty and Miss Rhoades were entertained with radio and yietrola 111usie. W. P. Green, the presi- dent of the Senior class, expressed the regret of the class in losing' a beloved classmate, and in turn Lois thanked the Seniors and ex- pressed her deep appreciation for their sincere efforts. These Seniors will in future years remember this evening as a wonderful success, and as memories come back in hours of loneliness they will smile-and wish they were back again. SOPHOMORE WEINER ROAST. Un October 4th, the Sophomores, augmented by invited Sen' iors, Juniors and Freshmen enjoyed a Weiner roast at Youel's tim- ber. 'llhe party met at the school house and went by ear to the timber. A roaring fire was soon built and the party was soon en- joying themselves and roasting weiners and marshmallows. 'llhe ehaperones were: Misses Lyna Mae Helmer, Sadie Mae Farley, Iilvlyn Fisher and Mrs. Fay Mellonald. MR. AND MRS. R. C. WHITFORD BANQUET. lt was a great day for the Bulldogs. After 'llarkio had been disposed of, Mr. a11d Mrs. Whitford honored the football squad with a most. delightful banquet. 'l'he living room and dining room were artistically decorated with school colors. A four course din- ner was served and enjoyed by all. The evening was spent in gen- eral diseussion and the company departed at an early hour for the picture show. ltlvery one was loud in his praise of Mr. and Mrs. NVhitl'ord's generosity.
