IN THIS, THE NINETEENTH VOLUME OF THE FARE FAC SAMPLER, WE OF THE STAFF HAVE PICTURED THE EVENTS THAT WE HOPE YOU WILL REMEMBER FOR YEARS AND YEARS TO COME. His patience and our practice placed us in the top group. fcecauAe . . . you have been a friend and a companion to both students and faculty . . . you have fostered respect and pride in our school . . . you have shared with us your knowledge and talents . . . you have inspired and encouraged us at all times . . . you are remembered in our hearts at Fairfax High School we dedicate this 1954 Fare Fac Sampler to you . . . Mr. Philip James Fuller 7Y We are justifiably proud of the indi- viduals who make up the Administra- tion of Fairfax High School . . . They are the pillars supporting our school structure . . . We know them as the people who authorize our snow days and consequently our extra days in June . . . But from our first days in the eighth grade until we hold our diplo- mas in our hands, the Administration is functioning in our behalf . . . And with our appreciation for Mr. Woodson and the School Board is a certain pride when we realize that their aspirations are synonymous with ours . . . Without them, our hopes would be mere hopes. F A C U L T Y Their days were long ones . . . we saw them contributing to Fairfax High in a variety of ways . . . sometimes wet and cold from an early bus duty, or perhaps loyally supporting a faculty basketball game but always sharing with us their knowledge and interests . . . despite our innocent youth, we real- ized that book reports, homework, and those inevitable labs had a purpose . . . while we enjoyed an occasional holiday, they attended faculty meet- ings, combining efforts toward a better Fairfax High . . . extra help after 3:11 assured us of their sincere interests . . . yes, we ' ll REMEMBER our faculty for what they really are — understanding individuals who gave their time and talents toward our future . . . not only were they our instructors but also our friends with whom we shared experi- ences, confidences, and fun. A school without stu- dents is dead, as inanimate as a deserted town — a cold, bleak struc- ture that can be transformed as if by magic into a hustling, bustling city of its own, 1,800 strong, come nine o ' clock Monday morning . . . The classes of Fairfax High School are its spirit, its life . . . The population, from the tow- headed eighth grader to the misty- eyed senior, will remember laughing together, crying together, working to- gether, striving to uphold the ideal of our motto — SEMPER PROGREDIENS — Always Pro gressing . . . Yes, the ' 53- ' 54 Rebel spirit deserves to be remembered, not only by the seniors, in whom a special place is reserved for it, but by all of us who are read- ing this volume and who shall read it twenty years from now and say to ourselves, Remember that gang of ' 54? What a year! w o ewtnber. . . s E N I C L A S S We thought that we were going to loaf this year — suddenly we found our- selves surrounded by too many Sen- ior musts” . . . that Maryland U. trip was fun despite the sun and score . . . there was the realization that we ' ll be guests at the next Homecoming . . . we felt a special unity and pride hav- ing our own Christmas party with the oft-repeated Merry Christmas . . . did people really spend their holidays in the Library of Congress? . . . the organ- ized chaos of ordering caps and gowns and announcements made graduation seem that much closer . . . the play with anxious moments was our last class project . . . quite suddenly we found ourselves in the midst of graduation . . . blue and white tassels waved before our misty eyes as our steps to Pomp and Circumstance drew us nearer diplomas and congratulations . . . with a common love for Fairfax High and a wealth of precious memo- ries, we go our separate ways . . . We ' ve crossed the river; the ocean lies beyond.
